Down under to Rhoscrowther

An Australian farmer has experienced farm life in Pembrokeshire thanks to agricultural organisation, AgriVenture.

Twenty-eight year old Phil Le Cornu, from Murray Bridge, South Australia, arrived in September to find out about agriculture in Wales and spent six months working on an arable, beef and sheep farm in Rhoscrowther.

Phil has a family background in farming and he has always loved rural life.

"He decided that he would like to travel the world and discover agriculture in two different countries - but not just travel through, he wanted to discover the culture of the countries he was visiting," said the UK's AgriVenture manager, Katie Hunt.

The young farmer has spent the first six months of his travels in the county before moving on to another farm in Sweden for a further six months.

Phil hopes that by the time he returns to Australia he will be full of new ideas with loads of experience under his belt and so many new friends from all over the world.

AgriVenture is run by the International Agricultural Exchange Association, which offers opportunities to young people between the ages of 18 and 30 to travel and work in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA and Japan.

"Basically, our organisation does everything for them. All they have to do is apply and within a few weeks they can be on their way complete with visa, work permits, the lot," explained Katie.

"Naturally as they are living with families, they are included in a lot of what the family does.

"They meet other participants from around the world and lasting friendships are formed."
