Mr W. K. Britton Milford Haven Mr Ken Britton died on Sunday, March 12th at Rickeston Mill Nursing Home after a courageous battle with terminal illness. He was 74. Ken was a native of Milford Haven and spent all his working life at sea. He worked as a deckhand in the fishing industry from the age of 14 and went on to have successful careers with the Conservancy Board and finally as a tug master with Cory Ship Towage. He was also an auxiliary coastguard at St Anne's Head for many years. Ken was a well-known and popular member of the community and was described by all who met him as a lovely man and a true gentleman. He was a devoted family man who surrounded his children and grandchildren with love and kindness. The funeral took place on Thursday, March 16th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was officiated by Canon John Davies. Principal mourners were: Stephen and Alison Britton (son and daughter-in-law); Joshua, George and Jack Britton (grandsons); Muriel and Mansel Smith (sister and brother-in-law); James Smith (nephew); Eifron and Clive Perkins (cousins); many other cousins, friends and work colleagues also attended. Staff from both Riverside Residential Home and Rickeston Mill Nursing Home also attended the service. There were family flowers only but donations for the RNLI to Lloyds TSB, Milford Haven. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons Ltd, Hamilton Terrace, Milford Haven.
Mr D. G. L. JAMES ST DAVIDS The funeral took place at the Tabernacle CM Chapel, St Davids, on Tuesday, February 21st of David George Leonard James (Len) who died at his home on Thursday, February 16th. Len farmed at Clegyr Boia until 1988, before moving to St Davids. The service was conducted by John Evans, very Rev Dean Wyn Evans and Canon Jonathan Lean. The organist was Margaret Evans. The service was followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth, and interment at St David's Cemetery. Principal mourners were Isobel (wife), Gwenda and Nick, Ann and Fintan (daughters and sons-in-law), Brian and Tracey (son and daughter-in-law), Alun (brother) and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Unable to attend were Ethel and Jill (sisters-in-law). The bearers were George Croll, Bob Jones, Trevor Martin and Mick Rose. There were immediate flowers only with donations for St David's Surgery, to Lloyds TSB bank. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Bernard Mathias
MR D. DALKIN HAVERFORDWEST A large gathering of family, friends and neighbours attended the funeral on Tuesday, February 28th of Derek Dalkin, of Hawthorn Rise, Haverfordwest. Derek died at is home on Tuesday, February 21st, aged 72. Derek was a native of Alston, Newcastle-on-Tyne, but moved to Pembrokeshire in 1969. The funeral service was held at Parc Gwyn, and was conducted by Rev Geoffrey Eynon. Principal mourners were Veronica (wife); Kevin and Petra (son and daughter-in-law); Paula (daughter); John and Claire (son and partner); Jonathan, Jack, Adam, Jay, Sara and Chloe (grandchildren); June (sister-in-law); Yvonne and Gerry (sister-in-law and partner); Tania (niece), together with other family, friends, neighbours and former work colleagues at the Milk Factory, Merlins Bridge too numerous to mention. Unable to attend were Jack James (father-in-law); and Maria (niece). Bearers were Brian Evans, Neil Herbert, Glyn Llewellyn and Lyndon Frayling. There were family flowers only. Donations are being received for ward ten, Withybush Hospital by Ros Phillips, 22 Portfield Avenue, Haverfordwest. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Jenkins and Phillips, Funeral Directors, Fishguard.
MR T. TWOMEY FISHGUARD The death occurred on Sunday, February 26th, at Withybush Hospital, of Mr Ted Twomey of Iscoed, Penbanc, Fishguard, and formerly of Treberfedd, Trecwn. He was 80. Teddy was born at Treberfedd, being the youngest of three children. From an early age he became involved in the cattle trade with his father and elder brother. In the early days the family handled the Irish cattle which came by boat to Fishguard, and also purchased large numbers of cattle in the locality. Teddy would accompany the cattle to the Midlands by train in order for them to be sold, he would often be way for three or four days at a time. In later years road transport was used and cattle then travelled to the Eastern counties as well as the Midlands and to Norwich. Teddy's hobbies were bee keeping and travelling around in his 4x4. Teddy was a regular worshipper at the Church of the Holy Name, Fishguard. The funeral service took place at the Church of the Holy Name, Fishguard on Saturday, March 4th and was followed by interment at St Mary's Churchyard. The bearers were John McAllister, Wyn Phillips, Stephen Lamb and Clive White. Teddy was a wonderful character who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The principal mourner was his nephew, Timothy Wilkins. The funeral arrangements were conducted by Paul Jenkins of Jenkins and Phillips, Fishguard.
MRS L. E. HUGHES TENBY The death occurred on February 16th at Belmont Court Nursing Home, Tenby of Louise Elizabeth Hughes, formerly of The Glebe, Tenby. She was 75. Born at Quay Hill, the Harbour, Tenby, she lived in Tenby all her life and was the daughter of Teddy and Viva Lewis and one of six children. She owned various shops in Tenby with her late husband Pete, including Toy Shop and The Milk Bar and at retirement worked in The Newsagents on the South Parade. Her main interests were her family, including her grandchildren, twin grandsons Christopher and Simon and granddaughter Caitlin, and her brothers and sisters and their families. She was a devout member of St Mary's church. Predeceased by her husband Peter William Hughes, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law Griff and Maria, daughter and son-in-law Shan and David and grandchildren Christopher, Simon and Caitlin. The funeral took place on Wednesday, March 1st at St Mary's church, Tenby, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth. Rev David Jenkins officiated. Bearers were Mike Day, Peter Day and Bernie Harries (nephews) and Jimmy Thomas (family friend). There were family flowers only with donations for Alzheimer's Disease Society, to W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons Ltd, The old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
MR Y. D. LLOYD HAVERFORDWEST The death occurred on February 23rd of Yiyean Dundonald Lloyd (Porky) of Montague Court, Peregrine Close, Haverfordwest. Aged 31, he died in a road accident outside the Old Rectory Hotel, Llanddowror. Mr Lloyd was a native of Truro, Cornwall, but was brought up in Coronation Avenue, Haverfordwest. He was educated at Sir Thomas Picton School, Haverfordwest and trained as a chef in Pembrokeshire College. After that he worked in Butlins, Bognor Regis as a chef, ALS in Haverfordwest, RHL Catering, Johnston and finally, until his death, he had just started a job with Greenlight Recruitment Centre, Milford Haven. Porky enjoyed working on cars and motor cycles. He is survived by his partner Lisa Owen and four-year-old stepson Ryan. Family left to mourn are Lisa Jane Owen (partner); Ryan Owen (stepson); Angela and John Church (auntie and uncle); Kay Davies, Janet and Dean Britton, Rachal and Darren Quimby (cousins); Paul, Craig, Stephen and Rachel, James, Grant, Christopher and Kiara (cousins); Pam and Graham Passmore (foster parents); Martin and Sharon Lawrance (foster brother and sister). The funeral took place at St David's Church, Prendergast, Haverfordwest with interment at Prendergast Cemetery, Haverfordwest. Canon Gwyther officiated. The bearers were Steve Owen, Craig Davies, Stephen Davies, Martin Corbin, Michael Osbourne and Rico. Mr S. L. Gough Somerset (formerly of Pendine) Mr Stuart Lewis Gough died at his home at Langport, Somerset, on February 24th. Aged 56, Stuart was the only child of Nancy Gough and the late Lewis Gough and was brought up in Pendine. After attending the local primary school he went to Whitland Grammar School before taking an engineering degree at Loughborough University. Stuart's career took him to various companies in England and Wales before he settled in Somerset, working for Normalair Garrett at Yeovil (now Honeywell). His career was cut short when he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 29. Stuart had many interests and maintained a very positive outlook to life. He was a keen follower of Welsh rugby, particularly the Llanelli Scarlets. He was a radio ham and a master of the computer and he particularly enjoyed watching all motor sports. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and son Max, his mother, Nancy Gough of Narberth, mother-in-law and step-father-in-law, Dilys and Dick Hanmer of Pembroke, and by cousins in west Wales and elsewhere. Stuart was a Humanist and his funeral, which took place at Taunton Crematorium, was led by Peter Herridge of the British Humanist Association. Principal mourners were: Mary Gough (wife); Max Gough and Jo Bailey (son and partner); Jean and Peter Anderson, Alasdair Simpson, Robert Simpson and Rhian Evans (cousins), Ruth Skingley (close family friend) and John and Tom Evans (representing family in Wales who were not able to be present). Unable to attend were: Nancy Gough (mother); Mr and Mrs Richard Hanmer (parents-in-law); Myfanwy Thomas (aunt). There were no flowers but donations for the Multiple Sclerosis Society, to Susan Buckley, 234 Goldcroft, Yeovil, Somerset, BA21 4DA. Funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs Forsey and Son, Butleigh, Somerset.
MR T. N. THOMAS LLANDISSILIO There was a large attendance at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on Saturday, March 4th for the funeral of Thomas Noel Thomas, Frondeg, Llandissilio, who died at his home on February 26th. The service was conducted by Revs Jill Hayley Harries, Hywel Jones, Howell Mudd, Llinos Ann and Huw George. Principal mourners were: Dilys (wife); Wynne and Eilyr (son and daughter-in-law); Betsan Thomas (granddaughter); and other relatives too numerous to mention. The bearers were Geoff Davies, Skeel Harries, Dan Evans, Eric George, Roslyn Gibby and John Beynon. Leaflets at the service was distributed by Laurie Jenkins and Denzil Llewellyn. There was a family wreath only. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Dennis Jones, Efailwen.
MRS C. E. GEORGE PEMBROKE DOCK Mrs Catherine Elizabeth George, of Saint Peters Road, Pembroke Dock, died on March 3rd at Withybush Hospital, aged 82. Mrs George was a native of Pembroke Ferry and on leaving school she worked as a shop assistant. During the Second World War, she worked for the fire brigade during the bombing of Pembroke Dock, then moving on to the production of armaments at Trecwn before working in the mining depot at Milford Haven. Catherine was also a housewife. Her interests were fundraising, organising charity events, enjoying her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, knitting, sewing and she was very keen on crosswords. She was also a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Catherine and her husband, Henry, had been married for 62 years. She was a regular chapel goer, at Wesley chapel for over 40 years then subsequently at Trinity and she was also a member of the Sisterhood. Family left to mourn are: Henry George (husband); Edna (sister); Carol and Annette (daughters); Howard and Ken (sons); Cheryl, Daniel, Lucy, Rachel, Kevin, Garry, David, Heather and Emily (grandchildren); Rory, Seren Mai, Joseph, James and Daisy (great grandchildren). The funeral took place on March 14th at Trinity church, followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery and was conducted by Rev Gregory. Bearers were Dennis Nash, Daniel Hughes, Nathan Probert and Andrew Brain. Principal mourners were: Henry George (husband); Edna (sister); Carol and Annette (daughters); Howard and Ken (sons); Cheryl, Daniel, Lucy, Rachel, Kevin, Garry, David, Heather and Emily (grandchildren); Rory, Seren Mai, Joseph, James and Daisy (great grandchildren); Dennis, George, Nathan, Andrew, Stephen, Susan, Steven; Ronald and Ivor (brothers-in-law); Tiny (sister-in-law); Sheila (daughter-in-law); Peter and Beryl; Gary and Hazel. There were family flowers only, with donations for Leukaemia Research, to Mr Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue. The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Son, 31 Stockwell Road, Pembroke Dock.
Mrs J. Sudbury Pembroke Dock The death occurred on Tuesday, March 14th, at Withybush Hospital, of Mrs Joan Sudbury of Gwyther Street, Pembroke Dock. She was 85. Joan was born and brought up in Pembroke Dock, with one younger brother, Douglas, now deceased, who later emigrated to Australia. She met her husband Jack during the war and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary two years ago. Over the years, Joan had varied hobbies and interests, which resulted in many long-term friendships. Joan took an active part in amateur dramatics, and was a member of the Penfro Dramatic Society, appearing in many productions over several decades. She was also a founder member of Pembroke Dock Townswomen's Guild and spent many happy years working for this organisation. Joan's love of sport was a main focus in her life. She was a member of the Pembroke Dock Bowling Club, although her favourite sport was tennis, playing weekly throughout the year and only stopping last year due to failing health. Joan was also a lifelong member of St John's Church, Pembroke Dock. She retained a positive outlook on life, always encouraging others to do the same. Her husband of 62 years, Jack, died on March 19th at Fairfield Nursing Home, Johnston. She had one daughter, Jane Hordley, married to Peter, and one granddaughter, Sarah, and partner Ben, living in Cardiff. The funeral took place at St John's Church on Monday March 20th, followed by interment at Llanion Cemetery. Rev Andrew Davies conducted the service, assisted by Canon Rev Derek Evans. There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu, for St John's Church, to Mr Graham Thomas, 34 Charles Thomas Avenue, Pembroke Dock. The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Son, 31 Stockwell Road, Pembroke Dock.
MR D. J. MORGAN PEMBROKE DOCK The death occurred on Monday, February 27th at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, of Mr Douglas John Morgan (known as Doug), of Market Street, Pembroke Dock and formerly of Tenby. He was 82. A native of the Rhondda Valley, Doug worked at Manorbier Army Camp for a number of years, but for most of his working life he worked as a porter/general assistant in Tenby and Pembroke Dock. His main interest was horse racing. Family left to mourn are: Mrs Morgan (sister-in-law) and Gwyn Morgan (nephew). The funeral took place on Friday, March 10th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was conducted by Rev John Joseph (nephew), who was a former minister of St John's United Reformed church, Tenby. The bearers were two nephews and friends. Principal mourners were: Mrs Morgan (sister-in-law); Gwyn Morgan (nephew); and friends and neighbours. There were family flowers only, with donations for Leukaemia Research to Stewart Treharne of E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
MRS A. L. ROCH Tiers Cross The death occurred on Wednesday, March 8th, at Torestin Nursing Home, of Mrs Annie Lavinia Roch (Nancy). She was 92 and the widow of the late Billy Roch, well-known haulage contractor and quarry owner. The funeral took place on Wednesday, March 15th, at Walton West church followed by interment at Walton West Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev Andrew Johnson and Rev Martyn Evans. The organist was Anne Wheeler. The bearers were Roy Jones, Eryl Thomas, Paul Lucas and John Hart. Principal mourners were: Joyce and Dawson (daughter and son-in-law); Christopher and Tina (grandson and wife); Nicola and Ian (granddaughter and husband); Lisa, Jessica, Bethan, Lucy and Matthew (great grandchildren); Audrey Roch (sister-in-law); Arthur Morgan (cousin); together with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Unable to attend was Howard Roch (brother-in-law). There were family flowers only, with donations in lieu for the Torestin Residents Fund to Eric Mock, Cherinlee, Broad Haven. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas and Son, of Haverfordwest and District, and Mrs Susan Price.
MRS D. BURNETT KILGETTY The death occurred on March 9th at ward ten, Withybush Hospital, of Mrs Dorothy 'Dot' Burnett, of Loveston Mill, Loveston, Kilgetty. She was 62. Mrs Burnett was a native of Edinburgh and had served in the WRAC (Signals Corps) in Britain and Germany. She also worked in executive duties at GCHQ Cheltenham followed by several years as home-maker and mother of Iain. She also had several part-time jobs until becoming co-proprietor of The Bookshop, Market Street, Haverfordwest in 1996. She was latterly the co-proprietor of County Stores, Market Street, Haverfordwest until her illness. Dot was a great lover of the countryside, she was never so happy as when she was pottering about on the land. She was a supporter of the local church and interested in local affairs. Family left to mourn are: Andy (husband); Iain (son) and his fiancee Diane. The funeral took place on Wednesday, March 15th at St Leonard's church, Loveston followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, and was conducted by Father Paul Davies. The bearers were Graham Thomas, John Jones, Arthur Evans and Gavin Wright. Principal mourners were: Andy (husband); Iain and Diane (son and fiancee); Geoff and Sue Pearson, Bristol (cousins); John and Jo Andrews and sons Patrick and Henry, Bridgewater, Somerset, Peter Walker and Ann, Begelly, Pat and Austin Brooke, Tewkesbury (friends); and numerous friends from Loveston, Haverfordwest and elsewhere, including Jennifer, Debi, Bill, and Eira. There were family flowers only, with donations for ward ten, Withybush Hospital, to Stewart Treharne of E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
MR J. G. HESLOP BARRY (Formerly of Pembroke Dock) The death occurred on March 13th at Llandough, of John Gough Heslop, of Lundy Park, Barry, aged 75. A native of Pembroke Dock, Mr Heslop served in the RAF for 22 years, and worked at St Athan until his retirement. Family left to mourn are: Anne (wife); Janet and Aled Evans (daughter and son-in-law); Mark Heslop (son); Adam, Stephen and Joe (grandsons); Nansi and Ron Boreham (sister and brother-in-law). The funeral takes place today, Wednesday, March 22nd at Coychurch Crematorium at 3.45pm. There will be no flowers but donations in lieu to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
MRS V. V. NEAME, HAVERFORDWEST. The death occurred in Crewe, Cheshire, on Tuesday March 4th of Mrs Vesta Victoria (Betty) Neame, formerly of Haverfordwest. She was 82. A funeral was held at Crewe Crematorium, officiated by Rev Angela Speedy. The ashes were taken to Pembrokeshire on Saturday and interred in the grave of Mrs Neame's son Derek in City Road Cemetery, Haverfordwest. There were family flowers only. Rev Mark Griffiths, of Uzmaston officiated and the principal mourners were: Christine and Mark Ladley (daughter and son-in-law), Robert (grandson), Sharon Carter and Andrea and John Davies (grandchildren and spouse), Leah, Elsie and Jack (great- grandchildren).
