Help on offer

Dear Editor. - I have been contacted by a representative of The Northern Ireland Memorial Fund asking me to promote the help available to civilians, ex soldiers and their families who were bereaved or injured during the troubles in Northern Ireland.

The Fund is a Government funded charity and believe that victims and survivors in Great Britain are missing out on the help they are able to provide as they might not be known outside Northern Ireland. The Fund has a number of schemes on offer which victims may be able to access.

Since 1969 over 3,600 people have been killed and upwards of 40,000 injured as a consequence of the events in Northern Ireland. The Fund seeks to ensure that these victims are not forgotten by providing them with help and support to aid them in building a better future for themselves.

The Fund hopes to address not only the emotional and psychological effects of the Troubles but also the needs of those who have suffered financially as well. It offers support for the bereaved and injured as well as for those who care for them, trauma and counselling services and training and educational assistance.
