Medals in the mud!

Whitland 0 Ystrad Rhondda 0 There were no points scored throughout 80 minutes at a mud-bound Parc Llwyn Ty Gwyn as Whitland and Ystrad Rhondda fought out a draw where the only scoring chances fell to the Borderers when Aled Davies took two penalty kicks in the second period.

To be fair to outside half Davies, by then it was impossible to keep his feet properly and his effort in the 42nd minute barely got off the ground.

His second attempt in the 61st minute fell short from 28 metres!

Whitland had won 27-13 in Ystrad Rhondda but there was no chance of victory by a similar margin here. They would have been pleased by a point-less first period because they had played against the driving rain and still had the better of the half.

A kick and chase by Gary Evans set the platform for a handling move but winger Will Davies was unable to take the final high pass with the line close by.

Whitland had by far the better of play territorially after the interval saw a welcome change of shirts by both teams - although it was soon difficult too tell the difference again in the paddy-field conditions.

Randall Williams drove close to the line after stealing a lineout but lost the ball and although the Borderers reached the corner from kicks by Davies and Lee Glanville they were unable to keep hold of the ball for long enough to make a dent in the Ystrad rearguard. So the teams shared the spoils - perhaps the fairest result in such dire conditions.

Whitland were sponsored by Andrew Skyrme, Euro Fencing; MWD, Bristol; Waterline Ltd, Newport Pagnell. The team sponsors were Jonathan Cheetham Care Group; Neil Jenkins, Builder; Sid Evans Financial Services; Ronnie Howells a'r teulu; Davies Crane Hire; Freeman and Rosser. Whitland were also grateful to their eight ball sponsors.
