DEAR EDITOR, - In the article 'Shirt as offensive as cartoons' (Western Telegraph, February 15th) Mr Passmore is more than right when he states this T-shirt is more offensive than the cartoons depicting Mohammed as a terrorist.
The Muslims believe that Mohammed is a prophet and is mortal albeit that he is divinely inspired, whereas orthodox Christianity claims that Jesus is divine.
The Muslim creed states that there is one God his name is Allah and Mohammed is his prophet.
The cartoons are directed to a Holy Man whereas the offensive T-shirts speak of God in critical terms.
The Bible states that Jesus is the creator. This T-shirt is directed at the creator of the whole universe, to those who believe.
Cartoons are in the Western world are means of expression of the failures and shortcomings of modern man and cartoonists are skilful workers presenting outlooks with a satirical viewpoint to get serious point across. Dialogue not violence should be the response to this as to whether revered men should be depicted this way.
As part of my faith I don't feel not so much angered but disappointed that in this world of free speech we have a ridiculous waste of skills and materials. There are far more radical things to be said on a T-shirt than insulting other faiths for the sake of a cheap laugh.
