Driving on to improve local roads

DEAR EDITOR - I read with interest the letter from Stephen Davies, 'End this Misery' (March 15th).

The two particular schemes that caused his delays were trunk road schemes funded by the Welsh Assembly and therefore the decision on programming was not taken by councillors of this authority. However, the council welcomes the Assembly investing on the trunk roads in Pembrokeshire, and maintaining their asset in a good condition. I should also point out that at Merlins Bridge, the council actively canvassed for the improvement works to be undertaken. Unless this improvement action had been taken, the queuing would have increased and would have occupied longer parts of the day, leading to even worse congestion. It is unfortunate that anyone suffers delay and frustration because of roadworks in Pembrokeshire. However, far from being uncaring, the council is actively working with the trunk road agency and the Assembly to ensure our county's trunk road network is well maintained and provides for safe and sustainable access for all our residents.
