Safe cycling at a low cost

Dear Editor, - Councillor Brian Hall, Cabinet Member for Transportation, made good points in his letter in the April 5th edition of the Western Telgraph, Driving to improve roads.

It is most important for the Pembrokeshire economy that traffic should flow freely and above all, safely, through and across the county. Unfortunately, unlike our own council, the Welsh Assembly Transport Directorate does not always consider furthering and promoting alternative forms of transport. Mindful that traffic volumes are forecast to increase by 22-25% by the year 2020, one would have thought and hoped that the Transport Directorate would automatically have made provision for cyclists alongside any road improvement scheme for which they are responsible. This they have singularly failed to do, for example with the A477 Bangeston - Nash Fingerpost road improvement scheme. The cost of providing safe paths for cyclists would have been minimal.
