Entomologist Sarah Beynon is encouraging students to follow in her footsteps by applying for a £1,000 bursary award provided by the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society.
Sarah, the daughter of St Davids Welsh Black breeders John and Pauline Beynon, who regularly helped her parents exhibit at the show, was awarded the bursary last year to further her studies.
During a presentation to the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society earlier this month she said the bursary had helped her enormously with her biodiversity research.
The society is hoping that others will recognise the benefits in applying for the award this year.
Committee member Robert James, of Farthings Hook Farm, New Moat, says applicants are asked to write a 2,000-word essay on a subject of their choice.
The only criteria are that applicants must be in full-time education, studying agricultural-related subjects, not only farming but subjects such as forestry, food technology, equine studies or veterinary science.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for a student to receive a cash award to help support them in their studies,” said Mr James, whose eldest son, Tim, was the first recipient of the bursary in 1999.
“They can be studying anywhere but they must have been schooled in Pembrokeshire.”
