Success for green festival

The first ever green fair has been held in Haverfordwest.

Simon Moffatt is pictured on an exercise bike which operated a smoothie machine, while Sally Davies, chairman of the Haverfordwest going plastic bag free campaign and Haverfordwest deputy mayor councillor Christopher Blakemore, toast the green fair.

Hosted by the town’s transition group and the plastic bag free campaign, the event was held at the Picton community centre.

A programme of events ran throughout the day and evening. Items on offer included recycled goods, jewellery, bric-a-brac made of recycled material, Fairtrade goods and healthy foods.

Among visitors to the event were Haverfordwest’s deputy mayor, Councillor Christopher Blakemore and MP Stephen Crabb and his family.

They were introduced to a new currency — the Picton pound — which could be used to buy items at the fayre.

Visitors were invited to bring fruit to be juiced by the bike-powered smoothie maker and learned more about recycling, wind and wave power and Skomer Marine Reserve.

An evening of music followed, with performances from the One Voice choir, Penfro Minstrels and Oak Boat.

Organisers are planning to host a similar green event next year.
