  • Common sense

Thank goodness for the wise decision of Pembrokeshire County Council (letters 4th April) in not approving the placing of two wind generators on the northern slopes of Frenni Fawr, near Crymych; indeed it would have truly been a bad day for common sense if permission had been granted, and the planning inspector has to be congratulated – three cheers. During these times of austerity Wales badly needs to protect its tourism industry and any action that detracts from this must be condemned – the only people to prosper from the deployment of large wind generators are selfish landowners and greedy wind developers who grow rich at our expense in the form of government subsidies – one reason why energy bills are going through the roof! read more

  • Harbour response

Dear Editor I would appreciate the opportunity to respond to the letter from Mahalah Fransham published in the March 28th edition of the “Western Telegraph” regarding launching fees at harbours in North Pembrokeshire. read more

  • Marvellous exhibition

Dear Editor:- Through Kathleen Davies (Frogall, Spittal) and Eve Lewis, (Haverfordwest) I learned of an exhibition of Pembroke Main Street in days gone by, which is open to the public on the last Thursday of every month between 2pm and 4pm in the Tabernacle. Last Thursday I visited Pembroke, called in at the Farmers Market, followed by coffee at The Olde Kings Arms, before a little shopping in the Main Street. We then drove via Lamphey to Freshwater East, where we sat on a seat at the top of Happy Balley, on inspection realised that the seat had been dedicated to Keith Edwards and his wife. I knew Keith many years before when he played for Pembroke rugby club. We then went past east Trewent towards Stackpole Quay. This reminded me of many happy memories, taking the canoe to Barafundle or Swan Lake. I then drove to the Eight Arch Bridge, to find that the road was closed. As it was only 11.40am it was too early to much at the Stackpole Inn. I decided to return to Lamphey and lunch at Lamphey Court. We were not disappointed, we were given an extremely warm welcome before a delicious lunch. read more

  • Political positioning

When the electors of Pembrokeshire go to vote in the council elections in May they should remember the independent Estyn report published in August last year on the performance of Pembrokeshire County Council. read more

  • Political positioning

The letters about the forthcoming local elections certainly stir up opinions, volatile material these political issues. My only addition would be to stress the importance of using your privelege and right to vote. Then if you have voted it qualifies you to moan afterwards. Those to idle to bother should keep quiet but often as not they are usually the first and loudest to whinge after the event.Women especially should seriously consider using their vote as it was cruelly denied to them for far too long and female forebears died in the pursuit of getting the vote.Good Luck to all those putting their names in the hat to obtain being elected. read more

  • Political positioning

I share Mr. David Edwards' anticipation of the local council elections taking place on 3rd May - five weeks away, not seven weeks, and from what I understand, councillors will be voted in for five years this time, not four. read more

  • Who pulls the strings?

The evidence of the many protest groups and letters in local and semi national papers show the frustration, intense concern by the alert residents in Wales to the NHS changes being implemented now by the newly setup Health boards structure. Whilst creating the smokescreen of concern , Talking Health, DVD mail shots etc it is crystal clear that changes adverse to many are being implemented whilst claiming that no decisions are being taken until the “Consultation” is complete…..when ever? read more

  • Spotlight on the elderly

After reading the article in the Western Telegraph dated 28th March about an attack on a man in Haverfordwest in the early hours of Sunday morning March 18th, I felt I had to write to voice my extreme concerns regarding street lighting. read more
