So Milford Town Councillors in their infinite wisdom are cutting off their noses to spite their faces by cutting the grant they promised the Torch Theatre.
Now, a grant of £120K from the Arts Council of Wales is at risk as its was conditional on the agreed sum coming from Milford Town Council.
I read on the BBC's web-site that Milford councillors saw Torch Theatre accounts showing £133K in their balances.
I know from my own experience as a local councillor (before I moved to Pembrokeshire) how some councillors see figures like that, then put it into the context of their own income and expenditure and think, blimey, £133K is a lot of money!
But to a business, like the Torch Theatre, its a small sum, but to use those reserves will mean they have hardly any spare money in the kitty.
Whilst on the one hand its amusing to hear the Mayor calling some of his councillors "donkeys", on the other hand, it doesn't endear the Mayor to his colleagues when support is needed on other issues over his year in office.
So Milford Councillors are proposing to give the money "saved" to childrens activties instead?
Councillors need to remember that whilst its good to provide services to the young, you cannot keep throwing money at that target audience, when you are putting the futue of the Torch Theatre at risk, which is a vital service to Milford residents and for us who may live many miles away - and bring money INTO the town.
Its the adults that pay the Council Tax and we need services as well!
I trust some common sense will return and that the Milford Town Council will restore the money otherwise history will not look too kindly on those short sighted individuals who stuck the knife into the FRONT of the Torch Theatre. It wasnt a knife in the back. It was more brutal - in the front!
