A year ago today, the internet reliably informs me (I'm not so good at remembering dates), Obama was elected.

It has been an embarrassingly long time since I posted a blog entry, for which I am sorry. First I broke my laptop and we're also having quite a lot of building work done on our house, which has completely fried my brain.

Newport can be a difficult place to have a full-time job in summer, when it is full of people enjoying their holidays and you are working.

There is a new love in my life. Don't feel bad for The Boy (not that you would, but you never know); it's a mug. But it's not just a mug to me. Well it is, but it's a special mug. It auspiciously entered my life by accident and now I'm scared that it will leave again and I'll miss it.

I have moved out of the family home/shop and into a flat with my boyfriend and one of our friends. Unfortunately, neither The Boy nor The Roomie (as our new flatmate will be referred to on the blog) are those mythical creatures who enjoy cleaning, and more specifically, washing up. Although, to be fair, they're good at doing it despite not wanting to. We don't live in filth or anything. I'm definitely not one of those people either, and, while we're on the subject, I've never met one and remain unconvinced that these people exist. If anyone knows one, though, please invite them to come and sleep on our futon and do our washing up in return for lots of pasta. The Roomie is an excellent cook.

It's been a while since my last blog entry, for which I have no excuse. I apologise – I'm a bad blogger. But anyway, The Boy and I won a pair of tickets for the Sunday of Radio 1's Big Weekend in Swindon (which was amazing, because I'm going to bring out the cliché of 'I never win anything'), so a couple of weeks ago, off we went.

I'm struggling a bit with my 'good writing' entry so I'm going to put that on the back burner for a while and give my poor, confused brain a bit of a break. In the mean time, I will provide an update on what I did last weekend...

So, this blog entry is really more 'away from Newport' news than 'Newport News'. The Boy and I went to visit my Dad in North Yorkshire over the Easter weekend. Where my Dad lives (and I used to live) is lovely, but it is very far away. I think of going from Newport to my Dad's as being like going from one place in the middle of nowhere to another place in the middle of nowhere. It's nice to be in the middle of nowhere, but not so nice to drive there, and as the Boy does not drive, I had to do the 5+ hours each way on my own.

There was sunshine! I can honestly say that there is nowhere I would rather be than Newport when it's sunny, as it was over the weekend. It felt like it lasted longer than most weekends, almost to the point of feeling like a holiday (or at least a mini-break). This, I think is one of the major positives of living in a holiday destination: you can feel on holiday without actually going anywhere. Visitors hadn't actually started to arrive in any great numbers over the weekend either, so I didn't even have to queue in Spar for half an hour to buy a bottle of water and an ice cream. Good times.

On the weekend I went with my mum to visit my sister, who lives in South-East London. While we were there we went to the National Gallery to the Picasso exhibition. To start with a negative, the exhibition was very busy, which being a bit of a country bumpkin, I found slightly stressful. When I could fight past the hordes to get to the pictures, however, it was pretty amazing.

After graduating from Cardiff University in Summer of last year I decided to listen to the emotional part of my brain and go home to live in Newport, Pembrokeshire, where I moved 11 years ago. I'm now living with my mother and stepfather again, enjoying the idyll of Pembrokeshire life.
