Road Junction Gives Me The Cwmgwili's!
I see that Carmarthenshire County Council is deciding today what to do today about the dangerous right turn junction on the A48, to/from Cwmgwili. It has seen several accidents and fatalities in recent years.
I consider myself to be an alert and safety conscious driver and have only turned right from Cwmgwili, onto the A48, usually during the quieter part of the day. However, as its a 70mph dual carriageway, its not exactly a quiet road at any time of the day.
I always tend to drive to the Pont Abraham roundabout if coming from Ammanford, rather than risk the Cwmgwili junction.
It has to be one of the most dangerous junctions I have come across and doing nothing is not the decision I expect to be taken. I am also surpised that there are some locals who object as it will add several miles to their journies if barriers are put along what will become an extension to the central reservation. Local farmers are also objecting. Some are asking for a reduction of the speed limit on the stretch of road.
Either a revised road junction is devised (say with a flyover?) or the right turns must cease, on obvious safety grounds as traffic are at risk - both those intending to turn right, or the traffic already on the A48 travelling at speeds of up to 70mph.
I am also surprised this wasn't actioned, some time ago. Highway safety must be paramount, unless someone has the money to create a solution to make it safer for all road users.
