UK Population Increase 2009 - 2010
I saw the story yesterday that the UK grew by 470,000 over a 12 month period 2009 - 2010.
Or to put it another way, as the Pembrokeshire population is just under 120,000 according to the last figures I can find, the figure equates to 4 Pembrokeshires.
I wont comment on that figures as it appears that rather than it being an influx of immigrants, that would appeal to the Daily Mail and Daily Express readers, it is apparently due largely to an increase in the birth rate. The highest since the baby boom of 1962. We are told the problem is global warming, but the world's population is expected to hit 7 billion soon.
I was born in 1959, part of the baby boom era. I just Googled the world population for 1960 and then, the population was just over 3 billion.
I don't honestly know why all the concern is over global warming when the world's population has more than doubled in the last 50 years and the world's resources are disappearing fast.
If man is to live long enough, when is the world going to deal with the problem of an ever growing population at a time that our resources are disappearing at an alarming rate. How long will it be before nations are fighting for water, for example?
As we are supposed to be reducing our carbon emissions in the UK, surely an additional 470,000 people in the UK will just add to the production? I must be missing something.
I also Googled population figures for Cardiff and Bristol. The figures are 336,200 for Cardiff and 420,556 for Bristol.
So where are the 470,000 going to live as we are always being told the numbers of new housing is not keeping up with demand. I see the latest figures suggest about 100,000 new homes were built in 2010.
How is the UK going to continue to cope with the ever increasing population growth and when will someone say, hang on, we cant keep increasing it as we don't have enough schools, hospitals, sewerage systems etc...?
