Walk on Castlemartin Range On Sunday June 27th we were allowed access across Castlemartin Range west, this is the section normally closed off to the public, but with permission from the army we walked across saving quite a bit of mileage on road We were told we could take a party of 30 so WI members and husbands and a few friends joined in. Daphne and Graham had instructions previously from the army commander and led the party on the walk.
A lovely day, good company, great scenery, lots of nesting guillemots, amazing rock formation and on the rocks at ‘The Wash’ a lot of fossil remains of plants and animals. All very interesting.
The coastal flora was also very good, periwinkle, vetch, vipers bugloss, clover and even wild orchids.
The only downside was the amount of horse flies about we all got attacked by them, but I am happy to say not by the army!
Our next walk is on Sunday 5th July when we will be walking from Stack Rocks to Freshwater East – not far to go to Amroth now !!
Shirley Thomas and Daphne Morgan are taking on the 190 mile Pembrokeshire Coast Path to raise money for WI House in Haverfordwest. Their combined age is 137 years young. In this blog they will share their experiences on the coast path and during their walk.
