A bumper crowd enjoyed the point to point steeplechase racing at Lydstep, on bank holiday Monday, writes Gordon Thomas.
The terrific annual event, organised by the South Pembrokeshire Hunt, was blessed with perfect weather and was a big success, making it one of the biggest sporting attractions in Pembrokeshire.
Unfortunately, a lot of horses withdrew from the races because the ground was very firm going.
Corkan, ridden by J. Mathias, won the subscribers race.
Daisy's Rainbow, ridden by D. S. Jones, romped home to win the open maiden and Bobosh, ridden by Miss C. Roddick, won by a head to capture the ladies' open.
Eastwell Violet, ridden by M. Lewis, finished strongly to win the open maiden for 4, 5, 6 and 7-year-olds.
J Mathias picked up his second win of the day on Howdydoody, to capture the men's open trophy.
Chestnut Annie, ridden by Miss I. Thompsett, won the intermediate and Irish bred horse Flinski, ridden by R. Hughes, won the restricted.
The last two races were for the up and coming junior jockeys.
Hot favourite Oscar, ridden by Thomas Watkins, triumphed in the first pony race, then Leyla Phillips, riding Independent Spirit, won by a big margin to triumph in the second pony race.
