More than 500 cyclists from Pembrokeshire and all over Britain were welcomed by brilliant sunshine for the first Tour of Pembrokeshire Cyclo-sportive on Sunday, June 8th.
The weather showed the county in all its glory, and the event proved 'a tremendous success' said chairman Bryan Jones.
Emails, comments and postings on the forums of national cycling websites were full of praise for the county, the day and its organisation.
"So many riders have vowed to return, not only to next year's event but also for family vacations," said Bryan.
As one rider said afterwards: "Although it was very tough, I think you struck a really good balance between making it a very difficult, but extremely enjoyable ride.
"I am already looking forward to coming down again for another great holiday and another great ride."
The only sour note struck during the day was by the irresponsible people who tried to sabotage the event by destroying and removing route signage.
But otherwise the riders had huge support from hundreds of people along the route and from many volunteers who manned every aspect of the organisation and administration.
The event was held in aid of Wales Air Ambulance, and anyone who would like to contribute can send cheques (made payable to Wales Air Ambulance) to Bryan Jones, Merryhill, St Brides Lane, Saundersfoot, SA69 9HL.
