Mrs G. M. Lewis

Haverfordwest

The death occurred of Glenwen Mary Lewis (nee Gray) at West Wales General Hospital on March 10th. She was 69.

A native of Haverfordwest, Glenwen was a devoted mother and wife.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: William (husband); Barney Lloyd and Claire (son and daughter-in-law); Myfanwy and Mark (daughter and son-in-law); Dylan and Owain (sons); Megan (granddaughter); Conner (grandson); Irma and Raymond, Irene and Lesley, Iris, Brinley, Jean, Billy and Doreen, Michael and Ann, Hilary, Neil, Helen (brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews), and friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.

The bearers were William, Lloyd, Mark, Owain, David Potter and Dai Gun.

There were family flowers only, but donations in lieu for the intensive care units of Withybush and West Wales General hospitals may be sent to M. Lewis, 4 Cae Gerddi, Goodwick.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Glyn Thomas and son, Freystrop.

Mr I. Evans

Haverfordwest

The death occurred at his home on March 22nd of Ivor Evans, of Crossways, Spittal Cross, aged 77.

Ivor was the last of four farming brothers and farmed at Spittal Cross all his life, enjoying all aspects of farming and country life.

His main interests were enjoying a variety of music, attending local concerts and eisteddfods, especially those involving members of the family.

He had a particular interest in the natural world and was a keen gardener.

He regularly attended Zion's Hill United Reformed Church and was a lifelong member and elder.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Mary Evans (wife); Nigel and Sue Evans (son and daughter-in-law); Gill and Anthony Morgan (daughter and son-in-law); Judy Doncaster (daughter); Simon and Lynette, Steven and Caroline, Rebecca and Rhys, Gemma and Lee (grandchildren); Josh and Grace (great-grandchildren); Mary Harries, Neila Davies, Gladys Pritchard (sisters); Tommy Harries, Venie Evans, Hetty Evans, Sylvia Evans, Margaret Davies, Mr and Mrs Howell Phillips, Mr and Mrs Willie Williams (brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law); plus other family members too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend were Mr and Mrs Jasmer Suri (sister and brother-in-law).

The service was held at Zion's Hill United Reformed Church on March 28th and was officiated by Rev Malcolm Shapland and Rev Dr David Owen.

Also present were Rev Martin Evans, Rev Geoffrey Eynon, Rev Dr Cerwyn Davies and Rev Paul Davies.

The organist was Sian Lewis (niece) and the bearers were Simon and Steven Evans, Rhys Morgan and Lee Doncaster (grandsons), Barry, Stuart, Richard and Malcolm Evans, Derek Harries and Rex Davies (nephews).

There were family flowers only with donations, if desired, for Zion's Hill URC to Byron Williams, Daneleigh, 20 Castle Rise, Spittal.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mr G. E. Harries

Simpson Cross

George Edward Teddy' Harries lived at Glenover as a child and went to school in Barn Street before moving to Morgans Park, Rudbaxton.

Teddy was one of six children and is survived by Mansel and Muriel.

After leaving school he worked on farms in the Rudbaxton area.

He married Florrie Reed, of Greenland, Clarbeston Road on December 26th, 1945.

They began married life with the tenancy of Whiteleys, Ambleston and were very happy at the smallholding, bringing up their first two children, Joyce and Margaret.

Teddy worked on local farms, and then came home after a full day's work to help Florrie.

Teddy and Florrie bought their first farm when they moved to Simpson Cross in 1958.

The hard work continued with their dairy farm, never giving a thought to holidays or a day off. Their third daughter, Janet, was born at Sea View.

Teddy began to take things easier when he developed a heart problem and took a keen interest in building a bungalow for his retirement.

Over the years he built six bungalows, all on his land at Simpson Cross and called Green Park. The last bungalow was built six years ago when he was 80.

Over the years Teddy was also responsible for a lot of development in Simpson Cross.

He devotedly looked after Florrie during long periods of ill-health. She died in March 2001.

Having previously donated the land for Simpson Cross community centre it was fitting that it was there he celebrated his 80th birthday and looked forward to the luncheon club every Tuesday.

During his last year he suffered ill-health, and friends and family helped to look after him, although he was fiercely independent.

The funeral and interment was held at Bethlehem Baptist Chapel, Spittal, where Teddy was laid to rest with his wife.

The service was officiated by Rev Paul Davies and Rev Geoffrey Eynon.

The bearers were Austin Belton, Dai Morgan, Dilwyn Phillips, Jim Peters, John Vaughan and Tom Evans.

The organist was Nesta Evans.

Principal mourners were: Mansell Harries (brother); Joyce Walker and Paul (daughter and son-in-law); Margaret O'Neil and Michael (daughter and son-in-law); Janet Harries (daughter); Bethan (granddaughter) and Jason; Philip (grandson) and Annette; Joe (grandson); Sheila Harries (sister-in-law); Kathleen Morris (sister-in-law); and Gordon. Also present were nephews and nieces too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend were: Muriel Griffiths (sister), who was represented by her son Michael and wife; Arthur Reed (brother-in-law) his wife Margaret and daughter Wendy; and Jonathan Morris (nephew).

Donations, if desired, may be sent to Dilwyn Phillips, Brooklyn, Castle View, Simpson Cross, to be distributed between Bethlehem Baptist Chapel and Simpson Cross Luncheon Club.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mrs L. Thomas

Kilgetty

The funeral of Lilian Thomas, of Kingsmoor Close, Kilgetty took place on Saturday, March 29th at Parc Gwyn Crematorium.

Lilian died on Good Friday at ward ten, Withybush Hospital.

Lilian was born in Pontypridd in 1918 and, following an early career in domestic service in Cardiff, Reigate and Worthing, opened her own ladies fashion store near Pontypridd in the early 60s.

Lilian and her husband Stan moved from south Wales to Llanteg in 1978 to open a guest house. They spent the last ten years in Kilgetty.

Lilian was devoted to her family and was married to Stan for almost 67 years.

Lilian loved gatherings of family and friends and until her health failed in later life, could always be relied upon to be the life and soul of any party. A tribute to this effect was read by her granddaughter Alisa at the service.

Left to mourn are: Stanley (husband); Malcolm and Marlene (son and daughter-in-law); Marilyn and Mike (daughter and son-in-law); Stuart, Craig, Germaine, Alisa and Dean (grandchildren) and their partners; Huw, Rebecca, Joseph, Carrie, Ross, Shania, Holly, David, Emma, Chloe, Daniel and Matthew (great-grandchildren); and family, friends and neighbours from Pontypridd and Kilgetty.

The bearers were Dean and Stuart (grandsons), Huw and David (great-grandsons). Rev Geoffrey Eynon officiated.

There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for the League of Friends of Withybush Hospital to R. Thomas, Bryncleddau, Treffgarne.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Son, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside.

Mr J. P. James

Haverfordwest

The funeral took place on March 26th of John Phillips James, of Pembroke Road, Haverfordwest, who died after a stay at Withybush Hospital. He was 88.

Originally from Capel Bangor, Aberystwyth, he started work at NatWest bank in New Quay, Ceredigion, then later moved to the Barry, Cardiff and Machynlleth branches.

He later returned to New Quay as manager in 1964 and retired in 1979 from the Haverfordwest branch.

He also served in the RAF in the Bahamas.

His interests included being a treasurer for the RNLI for 25 years and also for the NSPCC for several years.

He enjoyed lawn bowls, was a member of Cylch Cinio, Cymmrodorion Society, Probus and was a trustee of Tasker Milward and Sir Thomas Picton schools.

John was a member of Ebenezer chapel where he was deacon and treasurer, and one of the founder members of the monthly Welsh services at Tabernacle chapel, Haverfordwest.

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Catherine James (wife); Angharad, Peredur, Catrin, Marged, Stephen, Kevin, Nola and Shan (nieces and nephews).

There was a large attendance at the bilingual funeral at Ebenezer Chapel, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn.

The service was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans.

The bearers were: Bill Clow, Graham Hay, Neville Jones, John Thomas, Peredur Evans and Stephen Tudor. The organist was Tom Jenkins.

Donations were for the Paul Sartori Foundation The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mr T. J. A. DYER

Narberth

The funeral took place on March 14th of Thomas John Aeronydd Dyer, known as Aeron, of St James Street, Narberth.

He was 78 and died at home on March 7th.

A native of Llanddausant, Llandovery, Mr Dyer worked for Tom Pritchard senior as a cattle lorry driver for many years and as an HGV driver for Dairy Crest, Whitland, until he retired. He then worked at Eastgate Garage until he became ill in 2006.

His main interests were helping to look after his grandchildren, gardening and reading.

The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn Crematorium where Rev Elwyn John officiated.

The principal mourners were: Joyce (wife); Stephen (son); Graham and Mandy (son and daughter-in-law); Amy, Sophie and Rhodri (grandchildren); Jean and Marlais (sister and brother-in-law); Maureen (sister-in-law); Brian and Margaret (brother-in-law and wife); Llinos and Tomas, Sean (niece and nephews).

Numerous cousins attended from Llandovery, while also in attendance were Gordon and Val, and Edith Thomas (close friends), together with other friends, ex-colleagues and neighbours too numerous to mention.

Unable to attend were sister Wendy and her husband Fred and Glen Powell and family.

Donations in lieu of flowers for the Stroke Association, may be sent to W. and M. J. Rossiter and Sons, The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.

MRS A. M. WARLOW

HAVERFORDWEST

The funeral took place at Wolfsdale Chapel on April 2nd of Annie Mary (Nan) Warlow, who died at Withybush Hospital on March 23rd, aged 87.

Born in Brawdy, Nan was the eldest of four daughters of William and Cathrine Hughes.

She lived at Haysford, Camrose, for many years and was a member of Wolfsdale Chapel for some 70 years.

During the war she took in evacuees June and Charlie Johnston from London. June stayed with her for four years and Charlie for about four weeks. Both stayed in contact with Nan, as well as their sister Dorothy, who was also placed locally.

Nan travelled extensively both home and abroad, including several trips to visit June in Australia.

She was devoted to her family and derived great pleasure from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The principal mourners were: Dennis and Joyce (son and daughter-in-law); Yvonne (daughter); Robert, Neil and Andrew (grandsons); Rachel and Lee (granddaughter and fiance); Ceinwen (sister); Joan and Glyn (half sister and brother-in-law); John and Eirwen (half brother and sister-in-law); Maybro and Don (sister-in-law and brother-in-law); together with nieces, nephews and close friends.

Unable to attend were: Karen (granddaughter-in-law), Luke, Toby, Elena, Cerys (great-grandchildren), Buddug (sister), Rose (sister-in-law), and June.

The bearers were Robert, Neil, Andrew and Lee.

The service was officiated by Rev M. Shapland.

There were family flowers only, but donations may be made for the Alzheimer's Society to Alan Roblin, The Folly, Camrose.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.

Mr P. Cook

Milford Haven

The death occurred on April 2nd at Withybush Hospital, of Peter Cook, of Priory Ville, Milford Haven. He was 72.

A native of Grimsby, Mr Cook had been employed as a bosun in the Milford Haven fishing industry.

He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and also enjoyed watching all sports.

The funeral took place on April 8th at Hamilton Court Funeral Home, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth.

The service was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans and the bearers were Adrian Cook (grandson), Maurice Coe (family friend) and Steven and Craig Edwards (great nephews).

Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Glenys (wife); Tina (daughter); Ricky and Wendy (son and daughter-in-law); Adrian, Alison, Jeffrey and Jennifer (grandchildren); June Cook (sister); Maurice Cook (brother); Emmeline and Robert DeLong (sister-in-law and nephew); Wally and Phyllis Picton (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), and nephews and nieces too numerous to mention.

There were family flowers only, but donations in lieu for the RNLI can be left at Barclays Bank, Milford Haven.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.

Mrs V. L. M. Morgan

Kilgetty

Viola Morgan, of Oak Tree Court, Kilgetty formerly of Summerhill Caravan Park, died at home aged 88 on March 30th.

Lil Morgan, then Lil James was born in The Wood, Kilgetty, on July 29th 1919, and was the seventh of eight children.

Lil married Thomas Maurice Morgan (Tom) and they travelled with their work until settling at 105 Ystrad, Rhondda, where they brought up their children Thomas, Margaret, Diana, Eileen, Richard, Norman, Jean and David.

In 2004, Lil returned to Pembrokeshire at Oak Tree Court, Kilgetty, where she attended the day centre at Bloomfield and kept herself busy knitting scarves and cooking for family and friends. Welsh cakes were her speciality.

Predeceased by her husband, the family left to mourn are: Thomas Morgan and Hazel (son and daughter-in-law); Margaret and Ron Harden (daughter and son-in-law); Diana and Vaughan Davies (daughter and son-in-law); Eileen and Emlyn Thomas (daughter and son-in-law); Richard and Liz Morgan (son and daughter-in-law); Norman and Jan Morgan (son and daughter-in-law); Jean and Bill Butler (daughter and son-in-law); David and Cath Morgan (son and daughter-in-law), plus 28 grandchildren and 31 great grand children and their families.

Unable to attend were Will James (brother); Reene William (sister); Reg James (brother); Lil Mosley (sister-in-law) and Marian Morgan (sister-in-law).

The funeral service was held at St Eldiyr Church and was officiated by Canon Michael Butler.

The bearers were Richard Morgan (son); Norman Morgan (son); Keith Harden, Paul Harden, Stephen Thomas and D. J. Morgan (grandsons).

The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Sons, Stepaside.

Mrs S. J. Phillips

Maenclochog

The funeral took place at Bethel Chapel, Mynach-logddu on March 26th, of Sarah Jane Phillips, of Meusydd, Maenclochog.

Jane died on March 26th at Parc-y-Llyn Nursing Home, Ambleston, aged 89, following a period of illness.

Born and brought up in Mynachlogddu, she was a faithful member of Bethel Chapel until she met and married the late Hugh Phillips with whom she moved to Mount Pleasant, Rosebush.

In 1941, they moved to Sychpant, New Moat, where they successfully farmed until 1980, when they semi-retired to Holmus, Clarbeston Road. After Hugh's death, she moved to Meusydd, Maenclochog in 1990, and in 1996 was predeceased by her son Eddie. She lived in Maenclochog until she had a stroke in October 2007, when she was admitted to hospital.

Her main interests were her family, her home and friends. She was a follower of rugby and snooker, a keen gardener, very interested in local history and enjoyed listening to Welsh hymn singing.

She leaves to mourn: Megan and William, Maralyn and John (daughters and sons-in-law); Susan (daughter-in-law); Bridget and David, Eleanor and Gareth, Adrian and Nerys, Julian and Maria, Janet and David, Leighton and Laura, Edward and Iona, Peter and Sally, Simon, Trudy and Ken, and Liam (grandchildren and partners), as well as 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

The funeral service at Bethel Chapel was officiated by Rev Eirian Wyn Lewis, assisted by Rev Huw George and Eric John, and the organ was played by Rhian. Following the service, interment took place at Maenclochog Cemetery. The bearers were Adrian, Julian, Edward, Peter, Simon and Liam (grandsons).

Unable to attend were Leighton and Laura (grandson and wife) and Rev Gerald Jones.

There were family flowers only, but donations,, for the stroke unit, ward 11, Withybush Hospital may be sent to Dennis Jones, Maesawelon, Efailwen, Clynderwen who carried out the funeral arrangements.

Mrs K. A. Jennings

Fishguard

The funeral took place on April 5th of Kathleen Jennings (nee Owen) who died on March 25th.

Kathleen was born in 1977 in Lincolnshire and spent her childhood in Lincolnshire and Cupar, Fife before moving back to the family in Lower Fishguard.

She obtained a teaching degree at Trinity College, Carmarthen where she met her husband Paul. They were married in 2002.

After a period of 18 months working at POINT, Fishguard she moved to Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd and joined TEDS, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity.

The funeral service took place at St Mary's Church, Fishguard, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth.

The service was officiated by Rev Don MacGregor, and the bearers were Nick Cleary, Darrel Cousins, Gareth Richards, Rhydian Thomas, Richard Jones and Stephen Davies.

There were readings at the crematorium by Debbie Baird and Fiona Donnison.

The principal mourners were: Paul (husband); Sue and Barrie (mother and father); Kevin and Liz (brother and sister-in-law); Anne and Bernard (grandparents); Anne and Andrew (mother-in-law and father-in-law); Mara and Paul (sister-in-law and brother-in-law), together with other close relatives, and friends too numerous to mention.

There were family flowers only with donations for Cancer Care Cymru to Paul Jenkins and Sons, Feidr Castell, Fishguard, who carried out the funeral arrangements.
