MR W. D. R. BANNER
HOOK
More than 200 mourners attended the funeral of Roy Banner, of Newtown Road, Hook, who died on February 22nd, aged 73, after a short illness.
Born in Hook, the son of the late Harold and Rosie Banner and brother of Glyn and Jean Sutton, Jean having predeceased him, he will be greatly missed by all, especially missed at Hook Sports where he organised events such as the garden show, carnival day and fireworks displays.
During army service in the Welsh Guards Roy was on duty on The Mall for the Queen's coronation and later worked for British Rail where he remained for 43 years.
A service was held in the garden of Roy's home, of which he was exceedingly proud. Rev Stephen Woods officiated and the singing was led by Brian Jobson.
A keen bowler, he partnered his wife Dorothy, and on March 29th they would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Devoted wife Dor' is left to mourn, together with their daughter Nicky and her partner Axel, his son Leigh, daughter-in-law Karen and grandchildren James, Olivia and Owen.
Also left to mourn are: Glyn and Vera (brother and sister-in-law), Gareth and Avril Morgan (brother-in-law and wife) and close friend Janice Brick and family, together with many nephews and nieces and cousins.
The bearers were Paul and Roger Morgan (nephews), Simon and Kris Brick (close friends).
There were family flowers only but donations in lieu for the Paul Sartori Foundation to Mrs J. Brick, 12, Glanhafan, Llangwm.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by friend Glyn Thomas and Son, Maddox Moor, Freystrop.
Mrs J. M. Walbyoff
Llangolman
The funeral of Janet Mary Walbyoff, nee Evans, formerly of Plascwrt, Llangolman, took place at Llandeilo Chapel, Llangolman on March 13th.
She died on March 7th at the Prospect Hospice in Wroughton, Wiltshire.
Janet was the only daughter of Dewi and Martha Evans and brother to Malcolm (Plascwrt).
She was educated at Maenclochog primary and Preseli secondary school, before joining Midland bank in Narberth.
She met her husband Bob while he was serving at RAF Brawdy and they married in 1978.
She was always at his side during RAF tours of Germany, Cyprus and many parts of England and Wales.
They lived in Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, with their two children, Lisa and Gareth, whom she adored and was extremely proud of.
They planned to retire to Pembrokeshire in four years time.
Janet joined the civil service in 1990 and worked at RAF Brampton, Episkopi Cyprus and for the past 12 years at RAF Lyneham.
Rev Huw George officiated at Llandeilo chapel and burial and readings were given by Padre Rog Hardman (RAF) and Wynford Thomas.
The bearers were Russell Davies, Ian Walbyoff, Cefin Evans, Geraint Evans, Maldwyn and Emrys Llewelyn.
The principal mourners were: Bob Walbyoff (husband); Lisa (daughter); Gareth and Ella (son and partner); Dewi and Martha Evans (father and mother); Malcolm, Sharon, (brother and sister-in-law); Geraint and Catrin Evans (nephew and niece); Jean and Maldwyn Walbyoff (mother and father-in-law), as well as many other relatives too numerous to mention.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Colin Phillips, Hyfrydle, Gwbert Road, Cardigan.
Mr R. G. S. Hunter
Pembroke
The funeral took place on April 5th at St John's Church, Pembroke Dock, of Roger George Samuel Hunter, of Ashdale Care Home, Pembroke and formerly of Brewery Street, Pembroke Dock.
Roger was born in Ilford, Essex, on June 15th, 1922. Roger went to Ilford Wellsley Primary School and later to Clarks College, a private school in Ilford.
Roy', as he was always known by his parents, joined the Navy in 1938 and finished his basic training at HMS Ganges near Harwich, just before the Second World War.
He joined HMS Kurlew but served mainly on HMS Caladon and HMS Forth.
His service took him all over the Mediterranean, Atlantic and Indian oceans, and he did an extra two years naval service as a result of the Korean War.
While he was based in Pembroke Dock he met his future wife Pearl Jancey and they married in August 1945.
Roger left the Navy in 1955, having reached the rank of regulating petty-officer and settled in Pembroke Dock.
After working on the Hobbs Point to Neyland ferry and the woollen factory at Llanion, Roger joined the Post Office, enjoying rural postal rounds such as Angle, Stackpole and Freshwater East. He retired in 1987.
Roger and Pearl moved to Ashdale Care Home, Pembroke, where he died on March 26th.
Roger was a home-bird, who was a totally devoted husband to Pearl, and a caring father to his two sons Barry and Glenn, and grandfather to Ben, Liam and Max.
The principal mourners were: Pearl Hunter (wife); Barry and Elizabeth Hunter (son and daughter-in-law); Glenn and Ruth (son and daughter-in-law); Ben, Liam and Max Hunter (grandsons); Clive and Noleen Hunter (brother and sister-in-law); Rosemary Jenkins (sister-in-law) and Brian Jancey (brother-in-law).
The bearers were Ben Hunter, Liam Hunter, Brian Duggan and Michael Burke.
MRS A. M. WILLIAMS
LAWRENNY
The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth, followed by interment at St Caradog's Churchyard, Lawrenny, on March 19th, of Alice May (Maisie) Williams, of Castle View, Lawrenny.
She died at Withybush Hospital on March 11th, aged 91. A native of Martletwy, she had been in hospital since December.
Maisie formerly lived at The Diggins" and was landlady to farm students who worked on the estate.
Her main interest was her family, she enjoyed cooking and was a member of Martletwy and Lawrenny WI and Mothers Union.
A devoted family person, she derived immense pleasure from her grandchildren.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Freda (daughter), Owen and Delma (son and daughter-in-law), Nora and Maybro (daughter and son-in-law), Bethan and Jason (granddaughter and partner), Vaughan (grandson) and Amy (great-granddaughter), plus nephews, nieces and cousins too numerous to mention.
The funeral services at Parc Gwyn and the churchyard were conducted by Rev Dr Michael Needs and the bearers were David Arthur, Chris Williams, Tony Scourfield and Dai Jones.
There were family flowers only but donations in lieu for The Greenhill Avenue Centre, Tenby, to E. C. Thomas and Son, funeral directors, Archways Green Plains, Stepaside, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
Mr D. Waller
Hook
The death occurred on March 14th at Withybush Hospital of Douglas Waller, of New Road, Hook. He was 73.
Originally from Ruislip, Middlesex, he was a production manager for electronic company Hayes in Middlesex and also worked for EMI and GEC on avionics. He retired in 1999.
His main interests were fishing, jazz, walking, gardening and helping people.
The principal mourners and family left to mourn are: Jean (wife); brother; two sisters-in-law; three nephews; two nieces; two aunts; one uncle and eight great nephews and nieces; cousins, family and neighbours, some of whom were unable to attend.
The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn, Narberth and was officiated by Malcolm Shapland.
There were no family flowers with donations in lieu for Harlington Middlesex Hospital.
The funeral director was Roy Folland and Son, Haverfordwest.
Mr W. Davies
Llanwnda
The funeral took place on April 2nd of Winston Davies, of Cilau East, Llanwnda, who died at his home on March 26th.
A former Army engineer warrant officer, Winston was a veteran of many overseas campaigns including Dunkirk, north Africa, Italy, Germany, Palestine, Egypt, Aden and Malaya.
After his army service he was elected a member of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and although his activities covered all aspects of photography, he specialised in weddings and child portraiture.
Winston was born and bred in Treorchy, but spent the longest period of his life at Cilau East, Llanwnda.
The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth and was conducted by Rev Brian Barnes.
The principal mourners were: Betty (wife); Heather (daughter); Simon (grandson); David (grandson); Rhys (great-grandson); Stan and Kath (brother and sister-in-law), together with other relatives, friends and neighbours too numerous to mention.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Paul Jenkins and Sons, Fishguard.
Mrs J. Morton
Pembroke Dock
The funeral of Joyce Morton took place at St John's Church, Pembroke Dock on April 3rd followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn, Narberth. She died on March 25th.
Joyce had been a regular worshipper at St John's for many years and the choral service was conducted by Rev Thelma Barbar.
After leaving school and until her marriage she was secretary to solicitor Mr Wynne, a post she later resumed.
Joyce had a pleasant, outgoing personality and developed close friendships. She enjoyed many outings and holidays at home and abroad, as well as joining in community activities.
She was a founder member of the friends of the hospital, serving on the committee until the end. She joined the Townswomen's Guild and belonged to the Arts Club.
Music was her main interests. She was a talented pianist and enjoyed her time in Frank White's choir.
Her health deteriorated in the last few years, but with the help of carers, family and friends she managed to stay at home until December. She was then cared for by Mrs Griffiths and the staff at Apley Lodge.
The principal mourners were: Dilys (cousin); Olwen (friend); Mervyn and Bronwen, Norma, Dorothy and David, Ian and Dorette, Pam and Charles (cousins); Gloria, Rosa and Dennis (friends).
Unable to attend were Dennis and Betty, Worrall and Ellie (cousins), Rita, Jane and Nigel, Barbara and Lauri (friends).
The funeral arrangements were carried out by E. C. Thomas and Son, Pembroke Dock.
Mr W. H. Llewellyn
Freystrop
William Harry Llewellyn died at his home, Summerhill, on April 10th after fighting illness with great dignity and courage.
Harry was born in Barry in 1921, and came to live in Pembrokeshire in 1974.
In World War II he served with the medical corps and the 6th Airborne Division in India, Burma and Palestine, achieving rank of Regimental Sergeant Major.
He was a loyal member of The Pembrokeshire Burma Star Association for many years, being a standard bearers and welfare officer.
Harry was a faithful parishioner of St Davids and St Patrick's Catholic church and a member of the choir. He collected tirelessly in Freystrop for the Paul Sartori Foundation.
The funeral was held on April 18th at St Davids and St Patrick's Church, followed by burial at City Road cemetery.
Mass was celebrated by Fr Owen McGreal with Cannon Geoff Gwyther and Deacon Tony Lawrence, and the alter severs were Elliott and Amber Llewellyn (grandchildren).
The bearers were Robert Dovey, Craig Haywood, Adam Llewellyn, Rhys Llewellyn, Thomas Llewellyn (grandsons) and Ben Haley (nephew).
There were readings by Gail Haywood (daughter) and Paul Llewellyn (son), reflection poem by Paul Haley, eulogy by Robert Llewellyn (nephew) and the Last Post was played at the graveside by Jill Bryant.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Kathy (wife); Dawn and Gail (daughters); Glyn (unable to attend), Paul and Chris (sons); Angela (daughter-in-law, widow of son Rhys); Phillip and Stewart (sons-in-law); Sandra (daughter-in-law unable to attend); Fiona and Flo (daughters-in-law); 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also present were members of the Burma Star Association and pupils from Mary Immaculate School.
Donations for the Paul Sartori Foundation, 31 Haven Road, Haverfordwest.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Roy Folland and son, Haverfordwest.
Mr P. N. Cooper
Llangolman
The death of Phillip Cooper, of Llangolman, occurred at his home on March 25th. He was 67.
Originally from north Wales, he worked as a lorry driver and enjoyed gardening, walking and DIY.
Family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Muriel Cooper (wife); Ian and Shane (sons); Jayne (daughter); Jayne, Michael and Jayne (step-children); Rachel, Adam, Ben, Kate, Luke, Jake, Lewis, Richard, Adam and Megan (grandchildren).
The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn, Narberth and was officiated by Becky Davies.
The bearers were Ian Cooper, Ben Morgan, Luke Stead, Adam Calvert, Jake Stead and Tom.
There were family flowers only with donations in lieu for the Paul Sartori Foundation to E. C. Thomas and Son, funeral directors, Archways, Green Plains, Stepaside, who also carried out the funeral arrangements.
