Mr T. Martin
Broad Haven
The funeral took place recently of Tom Martin, of White Rock, Broad Haven, who died at his home on April 5th. He was 90.
Originally from Marloes, Tom spent most of his adult life in Broad Haven. He was predeceased by his wife Olive in 2005 and his son Roger in May 2006.
He was declared medically unfit and worked as a clerk for a fish merchant on Milford Docks during the war. In 1947 he went to Nottingham University, where he obtained a BA in theology and international law. He returned to Pembrokeshire to teach at Hakin CP, and became headteacher of Marloes CP school, before taking the position of head of lower school in Haverfordwest Secondary Modern, which later became Sir Thomas Picton School. Tom retired as deputy headteacher in 1979.
A man of deep faith he was a lay reader in the Church of Wales for almost 50 years. He also enjoyed playing cricket, sailing and boating in his younger days. He was an avid fan of cricket, and had a great knowledge of Marloes and the surrounding countryside.
In the early 1960s, he became a councillor for Preseli District Council where he began a long career in public life. Upon his retirement from teaching, he served as a Dyfed county councillor from 1981 to 1996. He served as chairman of planning and as a member of the Pembroke-shire Coast National Park committee, and was also involved with social services and education committees. He served on numerous school governing bodies, often as chairman.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Connie and Roy Stephens (daughter and son-in-law); Diane Martin (daughter-in-law); David and Sally Martin (grandson and wife); Christopher and Pippa (grandson and fiancee); Martyn Stephen's (grandson); Isobelle (great granddaughter). Many cousins from Pembrokeshire and beyond attended the funeral.
The funeral service, held at All Saints Church, Walton West and followed by interment at St Peter's Church, Marloes, was officiated by Rev Andrew Johnson, Rev Ivor Williams and Rev Dennis Wight. The bearers were Adrian Morgan, Martin Irvin, Vincent Murphy and Ceri Jenkins (cousins).

Mr R. G. A. Edwards
Milford Haven
The death occurred on April 22nd of Raymond George Albert Edward at Withybush Hospital. He was 73.
He was a native of Johnston, and worked as a rigger in the construction industry before he retired in the 1990s.
His main interests were walking his dogs and admiring others - in particular whippets and hunting and gaming, and racing pigeons.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Joan Edwards (wife); Sandra and Tony Edwards (son and daughter-in-law); Robert and Joanne Edwards (son and daughter-in-law); Billy and Alison Edwards (son and daughter-in-law); Lesley Edwards and Willy Codd (daughter and partner); Tracey Edwards and Louise; Sean and Sarah; Pauline; plus grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at Thornton cemetery and the bearers were Tony Edwards, Robert Edwards, Billy Edwards and Sean Conway.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Tom Newing and Sons, Milford Haven.
Mr D. K. Daly
Johnston
Dennis Kevin Daly died recently at Withybush Hospital at the age of 86, after a very brief illness.
Born in Co Mayo, Ireland, he moved to Pembrokeshire to work and lived in Johnston. He was married to his late wife Edith for 62 years.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Kevin and Gloria (son and daughter-in-law); Angela and Eric, Janet and Peter (daughters and sons-in-law); Tina, Sean, Chris, Charlotte, Craig (grandchildren); Niall, Neav, Callum, Sophi, Lilliana-May (great-grandchildren); Mary and Sally (sisters); Tom and Mickey (brothers); plus nephews and nieces too numerous to mention.
The funeral took place at St David's and St Patrick's Church, Haverfordwest, with interment at City Road cemetery on April 17th.
The bearers were Lawrence Daly, Seamus Daly, Aemon Bane and Mathias Bane.

Trecwn
The funeral took place on April 23rd at Parc Gwyn crematorium of Margaret Spencer, who died at Withybush Hospital on April 16th.
Her main interests were gardening, breeding birds and metal detecting.
The bearers were Dilwyn Williams, Bernard Williams, Patrick James and Phil Jenkins.
The mourners were Kenneth (brother) and Josie (lifelong friend).

Marloes
Eveline Martha Wilson, of The Green, Marloes, died at her home on April 2nd. She was 89.
Originally from Marloes, she was a cook in the NAAFI at Dale Camp during the Second World War, where she met her husband, the late James Graham Wilson. She also worked on the land and was a housewife.
Her main interests were her family. She was a member of the Mothers' Union and the Welcome Club in Marloes.
She was a church member of St Peter's, Marloes, where she was an organist for many years and attended regularly.

Mrs R. N. Roberts
Pembroke
Rubery Nadine Roberts (known as Ruby), of 37 Monkton, Pembroke, died at the age of 83 on April 22nd.
Ruby was born in Clarence Street, Pembroke Dock and worked as a shop assistant at George Mason's (The Star) in Pembroke.
After her marriage in 1962 to Edward Arthur Llewelly Roberts (known as Teddy), the couple ran a butchers shop from their home address until their retirement in 1987.
Ruby was a member of Monkton Mothers' Union and also attended Monkton Priory Church and the church choir.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners were: Teddy Roberts (husband); Gareth Roberts (son); Sara Roberts (daughter-in-law); Jessica Roberts (granddaughter); Bethan Roberts (granddaughter); plus nephews, nieces and cousins too numerous to mention.
The funeral service took place at Monkton Priory Church on April 29th followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn.
The service was officiated by Rev Martin L. Cox, and the bearers were David Greenslade, Lloyd Morris, Roy Roberts, Desmond Roberts, Tommy Roberts and Richard Roberts.

Mr C. Morgan
Haverfordwest
Colin Morgan died at the age of 73 at Withybush Hospital on April 15th.
Originally from Pope Hill, Johnston, in his early years Colin was a long distance lorry driver, and before his retirement he worked for 30 years as a bus driver for the same company, retiring in 2006.
He served his national service with the Royal Artillery at the Suez Canal.
His interests were travelling and his family.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Helen (wife); Glyn and Yvonne, Peter and Brenda, Jason and Sam (sons and daughters-in-law); Wendy and Harun (daughter and son-in-law); Kashim, Hassan, Ian, Louise, Nasrem and Zhara (grandchildren); Peggy (sister); Phillip (brother-in-law); Debbie (sister-in-law) plus nephews and nieces).
The funeral service was held at St Thomas' Church followed by interment at Pope Hill Cemetery and was officiated by Canon D. Evans.

Mr W. G. Williams
Merlins Bridge
William George Williams (known as Bill), of Haroldston Close, Merlins Bridge, died on April 15th. He was 86.
Originally from North Crescent, Haverfordwest, Bill started work in 1937 for RTP Williams (solicitors), and then after the war years he returned to Haverford-west initially working for PWAEC for a few years, then he worked for SWEB for more than 30 years before he retired in 1983.
His service record includes volunteering for the RAF at 18, in 1939. Bill was stationed throughout the UK. In 1944 he was despatched to India and Burma until his return in 1946.
Bill won many trophies as a soprano and made recordings in London in 1936.
He was a county tennis and table tennis player and was also a member of Haverfordwest Golf Club. He regularly attended St Thomas' Church, and he enjoyed having close family around.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Una Margaret (Peggy) Williams (wife of 58 years); Philip (son); Ann (daughter-in-law); Matthew, Jenny and Emily (grandchildren); Humphrey (brother-in-law); Hilda and Helen (sisters-in-law) plus numerous nephews and nieces.
The funeral service was held at St Thomas' Church followed by interment at Pope Hill Cemetery. Canon Derek Evans officiated.

Rosemarket
Following her death on April 18th, at her home, Penfro, Middle Street, Rosemarket, the funeral took place at the village church of Winnie Fowler, a well-known lifelong resident and church member.
At the age of 87, Win was the wife of the late Noel and leaves to mourn: Ian, Clive and Peter (sons); Jamie, Katherine and Edward (grandchildren); Pat (daughter-in-law); Lilian (sister); John and Shirley (brother and sister-in-law); Edna (sister-in-law) along with nephews and nieces and many friends.
The services at the parish church and later at the crematorium were both officiated by Rev Graham Lloyd.
The church was decorated with flowers donated by the luncheon club and Thursday night club members.
The bearers were Jamie Fowler and Edward Fowler (grandsons) and Martyn Rees and Terry Rees (nephews).

Hakin
On April 8th, Ceri Davies of 37 Glebelands, Hakin, Milford Haven, died at Withybush Hospital, at the age of 81.
A native of Llechryd, Cardigan, Ceri had spent almost all of his working life with the Ministry of Defence, in Milford Haven.
Educated at Cardigan Grammar School, Ceri was a quiet unassuming man who enjoyed nothing more than to be in the company of his family. His main interests were reading and sketching and nothing gave him more pleasure than family trips back to Llechryd, for which he always maintained a great affection for.
The funeral took place on April 14th at Hamilton Court Funeral Home, followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium.
The service was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Jean (wife); Jennifer (daughter); Phillip (son-in-law); Yvonne Critten (sister-in-law); Lily Critten (sister-in-law); Roy and Shirley Critten (brother-in-law and sister-in-law) and nephews and nieces too numerous to mention.
Unable to attend were Edna James (sister-in-law) and Teifi Davies (sister-in-law and family).

Mrs P. E. Rourke
Pembroke
The funeral took place at Parc Gwyn Crematorium on Thursday, March 20th, of Phyllis Elizabeth Rourke, of Strongbow Walk, Pembroke.
Phyllis died on March 4th, aged 97, after a two-week stay at Withybush Hospital.
She was born near Burton where she spent her childhood. She then spent many years as a teacher, firstly in Devon, but mainly in Carew, having returned to Pembrokeshire after two years away.
In 1941, Phyllis married Harold, who worked as a craftsman/joiner with Hancocks, in Pembroke Dock, for many years. They lived at Pembroke Ferry until 1980, before moving to Strongbow Walk. Harold predeceased Phyllis in 1985.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev Thelma Barber. Pam Hughes also spoke.
Phyllis left to mourn nieces and nephews along with many other relatives and friends.

Mrs A. M. Price
Broad Haven
The death occurred at her daughter's home on April 7th of Anne Mary Price (known as Nancy), of Sandyke Road, Broad Haven. She was 94.
Nancy was born in Barn Street, Haverfordwest, in 1914, the eldest of four children.
She attended Barn Street Church School, and St Martin's church, under the guidance of Father Baring Gould, who had a huge influence on her life.
She always considered herself privileged to have had him as her priest for such a long time.
Nancy left school at 14, to work in the newly-opened Halewoods shoe shop in Bridge Street. She remained there until her marriage.
She met Ben - a Milford boy - in St Martin's Hall in 1932 and married him nine years later in 1941.
They had an extremely loving marriage, with Ben dying just after their golden wedding. Nancy nursed him through the last eight years of his life when he was blind.
Nancy had many life-long loyal friends who she kept in touch with in later years by letter-writing and telephone.
She lived for her church and her family. She rarely complained and only saw good in people.
Nancy had spent the last few months at her daughter and son-in-law's home. She died with her family around her.
The funeral on April 14th, at St Martin's Church, was well attended and was followed by cremation at Parc Gwyn Crematorium.
The service was officiated by Canon C. Bowen, assisted by Archdeacon J. Harvey, canon Jonathan Lean, rev Paul Davies and rev Andrew Johnson. The organist was Michael Grange.
The bearers on the Sunday evening were Elwyn Evans (son-in-law); Nicholas Evans (grandson); Peter Scott (grandson-in-law) and John James (family friend), and for the funeral service the bearers were members of St Martin's Church; Dean Cole, Brian Mair, John James and Billy Roach.
The eulogy was given by canon Jonathan Lean, and a reading was given by Nicholas Evans (grandson).
The family left to mourn are: Janet and Elwyn Evans (daughter and son-in-law); Jonathan Evans and Dylan (grandson and great grandson, Australia); Nicholas and Ali Evans (grandson and wife); Rebecca and Pete Scott (granddaughter and husband); Oliver, Niamh and Noah Scott (great grandchildren).
Also attending were Sheila Llewellyn (sister-in-law); Ann and Campbell Morgan, John and Ann Llewellyn James, Jane Wood, Jean Richards, Ian and Cynthia Richards, carol and Alan Llewellyn (nieces and nephews) and many close friends and neighbours.

Pembroke Dock
The funeral took place on April 15th, at St John's Church, Pembroke Dock, of Brian George Nicholas, who died at his home on Monday, April 7th.
After leaving school he started work as a panel beater, but had to leave after a few years due to ill health. He then helped out voluntarily at the youth club in Bush Street until his eyesight failed in 1978. Since then his main interest has been his family. He was also a member of the local visually impaired persons' group.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Lindsey (wife); Amanda and Richard (daughter and son-in-law); Elaine (daughter); Aaron, Alisha and Adam (grandchildren); Angela and Clive, Kathryn and Philip (sisters-in-law and husbands); Michelle (niece), together with numerous relatives, friends and neighbours too many to mention.

Ludchurch
The death of Gilbert David Aretas Evans occurred on April 3rd, at Withybush Hospital. He was 86.
He was a native of Ludchurch, Narberth, and served in the airforce in India. He then spent most of his working life as a postman.
He was also a member of Narberth Royal British Legion, and enjoyed motorbike racing and listening to music.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Mrs M. Evans (sister-in-law); Mr and Mrs W. Richards (niece and nephew-in-law); Mr and Mrs John (cousin); Mrs G. John (cousin); Mr and Mrs E. Evans (cousin); Mr M. Evans and family; Mr and Mrs C. Evans, Mrs M. Davies, Mr and Mrs R. Dunbal, Mrs J. Norman, Mrs M. Rowen, and Mrs J. Philpin.

The funeral service was held at St Elidyr Church, Ludchurch, and was officiated by Rev Sarah Geach. Mr P. Speyer read the poem Footprints and the organist was Mrs M. Jenkins.
The bearers were members of Narberth and Carew Royal British Legion.

Mrs E. Evans
Narberth
Elsie Evans, formerly of Martletwy Cross, Llaw-haden, and 2 Bloomfield Gardens, Narberth, died on April 10th at Ridgeway Nursing Home, where she had resided for eight years. She was 96.
Originally from Lawrenny, she was a schoolteacher at Prendergast Jun-for School, Haverfordwest, until she married in 1937.
For the next 50 years, together with her husband Rex, she ran the family carpentry and undertaking business at Martletwy Cross. She retired in 1987 and she was predeceased by Rex in 1990.
Her interests revolved around her home and family and she also had a passion for reading and completing crossword puzzles.
She was a faithful member of Martletwy Church and St Andrew's Church, Narberth, until her health failed.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Richard and Mair, David and Val (sons and daughters-in-law); Carl and Alison (grandchildren) and Fern, Brooke and Rowan (great-granddaughters). Unable to attend were granddaughter Karenza and husband Neil, due to Karenza's ill health.
The funeral was held at Parc Gwyn crematorium and was officiated by Rev David Faulkner.
The bearers were Richard Evans, David Evans, Carl Evans and Dorian Howells.

Mr A. G. Jones
Letterston
Allen Graham Jones of Station Road, Letterston, died at the age of 71, on April 16th, after a short stay at Withybush Hospital.
He was a native of Fishguard and attended the national school there.
He left at the age of 15 to work at RNAD Trecwn and carried out his national service at Honiton, Devon and Ashchurch, Tewkesbury.
He returned to work at Trecwn for 43 years.
During his two year national service he was in the REME Regiment.
Allen's main interests were his home, his family, DIY, his car and looking after Roxy his westie. He was a faithful member of Saron Baptist Chapel, Letterston.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Margaret (wife); Elaine (daughter); Fenton and Louisa (brother and sister-in-law); Picton (brother); Walter (brother-in-law); Malcolm and Joan (nephew and wife); David and Anthea (nephew and wife); Kevin and Heath (nephew and wife); Emma and Simon (great niece and husband); Matthew (great nephew); Mary-Ann and Carys (close friends), and other relatives too numerous to mention.

Mr J. Powell
Merlins Bridge
Jack Powell, of Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest, died on April 17th after a short stay at Withybush Hospital. He was 89.
He lived most of his life in Surrey, then latterly in De Clare Court, Merlins Bridge.
He worked for Marks and Spencer in Marble Arch, London, for 35 years and in Alders, Croydon for four years before retiring.
Jack served as a Desert Rat in the Eighth army and served in Africa, France and Italy.
He was a drummer and carried his own drums on most campaigns.
His main interests were photography, painting and he played drums in a dance band.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners are: Nigel Powell (son); Gillian Doughty (daughter); Helen and Hannah (granddaughters); Matthew, Jamie and Simon (grandsons); Caitlin (great granddaughter); Jean Hamilton (lifelong friend).

Tiers Cross
The funeral of Elenor Rose Williams, of The Forge, Tiers Cross, took place on April 17th. She died at her home on April 13th, aged 95.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her main interest was her family.
She was predeceased by Hubert Williams in 1969.
The family left to mourn and principal mourners were Hazel and Tony John (daughter and son-in-law); Philip and Marian Williams (son and daughter-in-law); Claire and Gwyn, Kate and Steve, Chloe (granddaughters, partners and husband); Ellie and Megan (great grandchildren); Beatrice Manning (sister), plus numerous nieces and nephews.

NEW YORK
On Wednesday, April 16th, Yvonne Connors (nee Hewitson) died at her home in Chateaugay, New York, after a long illness.
The family left to mourn are: her husband Arnold (known AJ); Janette Dodds (daughter); Winnie (mother) and Anne (sister). Her father Douglas died in 2000.
Her funeral was held on Saturday, April 19th, in Chateaugay.
A memorial service for her family in Pembroke-shire is to be arranged.
