On sale a month with no viewings

DURING the ‘80s property boom, many turned viewing homes into a hobby – even if they had no interest in actually buying one.

But in some areas even that idle interest may but all have dried up, if lawyer, Jon Welfoot’s, experiences are to go by.

The 38-year-old’s three-bedroom home in St Julian’s, Newport, has been on the market for four weeks, with he and his wife Sharon hoping to move to Chepstow.

It is advertised at £234,950. The house was purchased in 2002/03 for £120,000.

“We don’t need to sell it at that price,” he said. “We’re open to offers.”

To increase the chance of selling it, the couple have opted to put it on the market with no chain and would move into temporary accommodation if needed.

But he has not had any viewings from potential buyers.

“In my life I have sold two houses in the past and I sold them in the first week,” he said.

“I would have expected some interest, even just from curiosity.”
