At the heart of Pembrokeshire lies the welcoming and attractive county town of Haverfordwest. As well as being an ideal base for exploring the county, the former market town is also a charming place to visit in its own right.

Overlooking Haverfordwest are the impressive ruins of a 12th century Norman castle, while the river Cleddau winds attractively through the town centre, spanned by two fine bridges. While Haverfordwest has retained its historical character and maintained many traditional buildings, it has kept pace with modern-day living.

At the Riverside Quay, in a lovely setting beneath the castle, is a convenient, newly-developed shopping complex, while the Riverside Market, Bridge Street and Quay Street nearby also have many delights. The bustling, pedestrianised Castle Square leads to the upper part of town which, with its many winding, narrow streets, is well worth a wander.

The attractive, hilly streets of High Street and Market Street have many fascinating shops, as well as some excellent pubs and cafes. Haverfordwest also offers a wide range of leisure and sporting attractions for all the family from tennis and bowls to golf and swimming. You can also enjoy the town's historical and architectural places of interest on a guided tour. Not far outside the town itself many heritage parks and activity centres can be found.
