Pendyrus Male Voice Choir and Catrin Aur perform for Hope Multiple Sclerosis therapy centre

International stars will be out in Haverfordwest, tomorrow (Saturday), for an evening of Midsummer Music to raise much-needed funds for Pembrokeshire’s Hope Multiple Sclerosis therapy centre.

One of the UK’s top male choirs, the Pendyrus Male Voice Choir and the glorious soprano, Catrin Aur, will be performing at Sir Thomas Picton School.

The choir has an enviable reputation for brilliant performances of a wide-ranging repertoire of choral works and has delighted audiences around the world.

It has been described as “an ensemble of male voices it would be difficult to match anywhere in the world” and “an outstanding exponent of the choral tradition of Wales”.

Making her first appearance with the choir is Catrin Aur Davies, who grew up in Beulah, near Newcastle Emlyn.

She is currently studying at the prestigious International Academy of Voice, in Cardiff, after her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she gained a distinction in her post-graduate diploma and won many prizes, including the Sir Geraint Evans scholarship.

In the last year, she has performed in Geneva, the USA, Canada and Japan.

As well as being a superb musical evening, the event is also of huge importance to everyone involved with the Hope centre.

Sufferers of MS – a progressive disease of the nervous system – find that their condition improves from breathing pure oxygen in a pressure chamber, and that’s what the centre offers, as well as being a place where patients and their family and friends can meet for support and advice.

Said one MS sufferer: “Following MS attacks, oxygen treatment has enabled me to regain energy levels and improve concentration and co-ordination. And also of tremendous benefit is the fun we all enjoy at Hope.”

Tickets for the concert are £10, and are available from the Victoria Bookshop, Bridge Street, Haverfordwest; Fred Hughes Butcher, Dew Street or telephone 01834 871464.
