The White Lion Street Gallery in Tenby has a fabulous spring selection in its first exhibition of 2010.
New and up-and-coming artists join well-established artists to produce an exhibition full of exciting juxtapositions, with different styles and subjects throughout the gallery’s ground floor.
Andie Clay’s dynamic landscapes, strong lines across vibrant colour, are flanked by her energetic representations of horses. Tractors with personality and skilful still lives, are shown by Joanne Jessop, alongside David Bellamy’s serene watercolours which include caves, trees, mountains and seas. David has spent years perfecting his whimsical watercolours that are full of emotion and draw the viewer into the landscape in a way that only top artists can.
He has written 13 books about painting, including one dedicated to Pembrokeshire landscapes.
The shorelines of Penny Timmis offer a bold contrast with their free and vigorous mixture of media.
Elizabeth Haines’ and Colin Finn’s paintings have a mysterious dimension — half-seen sails, a ghostly tree, Carn Ingli in winter — shown alongside , ’s clear and detailed etching of a hare startled amongst hellebores. The oil paintings of Sheila Stafford feature bright arrangements of fruit and flowers, sometimes seen between curtains or before distant landscapes. Glenn Ibbitson’s interiors also show glimpses of landscape, through windows or in paintings, and his actual landscape of Foeldrygarn offers snow-filled tracks to the far summit.
People caught in their everyday occupations feature in Mark Morris’ work: farmers, photographers and a busker are oblivious to being studied. Aspects of landscape are created by Jenny Keal in soft pastel, in vivid colours.
John Faulkner, who has run the gallery with partner Margaret Welsh for nearly ten years, said that the mixture of work on show features artists that have never exhibited at the gallery before.
“There is a wonderful selection; the mixture of paintings and the quality of them is outstanding.”
The Spring Selection exhibition is now open and continues until Saturday, March 27th.
The gallery is situated in White Lion Street, opposite the town walls and next to the cinema. It is open from 10am to 5pm daily, but closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
