Christopher is fired up for gig

COMING CLOSER TO HOME: Christopher Rees. COMING CLOSER TO HOME: Christopher Rees.

Singer/songwriter Christopher Rees will be performing at the Cellar Bar, Cardigan, on Friday.

Fresh from a performance at Glastonbury Festival and a live session on BBC Radio 2, Christopher said he is looking forward to playing closer to home.

"When I'm touring a new album I travel all over the UK and overseas playing shows, but it's not often that I get to play in my own back yard - so to speak," he said.

Christopher will be playing a stripped down version of his latest album Heart on Fire, along with some of his older songs.

He said: "This upcoming gig will probably be a little bit intimate and informal. I'll be performing solo with just my trusty Gretsch guitar and voice to depend on. It'll be quite a contrast from playing with the full nine-piece band at festivals this summer. The album itself is a pretty full sounding affair with a four piece horn section, hammond organ, piano, drums and guitars, but the songs still work really well with just guitar and voice.

He added: "I'll also be playing some old favourites from previous albums so I'll be getting the old banjo out of retirement and playing some of the more foot stomping songs from the Devil's Bridge and Cautionary Tales albums."

Despite being born and raised in Llanelli, the highly-acclaimed Cardiff-based singer and songwriter seldom performs in the area, but will try to make amends with this short stop, which follows on from gigs in Carmarthen and Tenby.

"I really hope that people come out and support the shows so that maybe it won't be too long before my next visit."
