SOME of the finest young musicians in west Wales will be bringing in the New Year with a concert in Tenby.

The event, which will also feature the premiere of a new piece of music, is organised by The Young Music Makers of Dyfed which runs the Dyfed Young Musician of the Year competition and a project for budding composers.

Centrepiece of the evening on Wednesday, January 4, at St Mary's Church, Tenby, will be a new composition by Ben Richards, from Haverfordwest.

The deputy head boy at Tasker Milward School was commissioned to write the piece after the YMMD composition project during 2016.

The process involved hundreds of youngsters from schools across west Wales runs annually between September and March/April working with the Red Priest early music ensemble.

Ben's work for solo piano will be performed by the winner of the Dyfed Young Musician of the Year title in 2016 Siriol Jenkins.

Siriol, aged 17, from Wiseman's Bridge, is a former student at Ysgol y Preseli now studying music at Magdalen College, Oxford.

Ben will also be performing on the trumpet, and the concert will also feature Rhydian Tiddy on trombone. Rhydian from Llandybie was runner-up in the Young Musician competition.

Siriol's younger brother Talfan Jenkins will also be performing on saxophone.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £8 on the door.

Money raised will go to support the YMMD charity organisation which is run by volunteers.
