THE Penlan Holiday Village Folk Festival, between Cenarth and Abercych, will take place between June 2 and 4.

Those taking part are invited to perform for the second annual 'Tim Williams Award' for performance poetry and also the annual song-writing competition.

The festival will welcome performance poet, actor and director appearing live, Mark Montinaro.

The festival will be opened this year by 2016 music winner Paul Hayes and performance poet Karen Gemma Brewer, hosted by Lazarus Carpenter. Runner-up from last year’s song writing competition, with a full set of original material, the very talented Liz Crippin, will be performing.

Among other acts performing are My Name is Ian, Sick-Note Steve and the Filmores.

The festival is held in celebration of the life of Eluned Phillips, the only woman to twice win the bardic crown at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, a feat she accomplished in 1967 at Bala and 1983 at Llangefni.

She was born at the site of the Penlan Holiday Village in Cenarth, on the same day that Dylan Thomas was born (October 27, 1914) and died on January 10, 2009. She knew Thomas and her friends included Edith Piaf and Augustus John. It has been said that Pablo Picasso showed her the original of "Guernica" shortly after he completed it.

There will be a fringe literature event with local authors, guitar workshops and craft stalls. A weekend ticket costs £25 with camping or day tickets are £10. For more information call 01239 710174.
