IN a folk scene bursting with bold and innovative music, vocal trio Lady Maisery shine brightly and will be wowing the audience at Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan.

They will be performing their distinctive harmonies on Tuesday, May 30 (7.30pm), with special guest Jack Harris.

Lady Maisery are renowned for reviving diddling (singing tunes wordlessly, using their voices as instruments), an art that had all but disappeared in the UK.

Each member is also an accomplished instrumentalist (award-winning and chart-topping) and together they expertly create a rich tapestry of fiddle, banjo, harp, concertina, accordion and foot percussion.

Lady Maisery are skilful explorers of the power, beauty and vitality of folk song. Mark Radcliffe (BBC Radio 2 Folk Show) described their latest album ‘Cycle’ as “beautiful and ambitious”.

Songlines magazine described the album as ‘very impressive’ and they were reviewed by The Guardian as "some of the most exquisite, thrilling vocal harmony work in the English folk scene".

They head to Theatr Mwldan following their 2016 sell-out tour and they were recent guests on the BBC World on 3 radio programme. Needless to say, Theatr Mwldan is thrilled to invite them to the town.

Lady Maisery will be joined by special guest Jack Harris. Born in Wales, he was a South By South West festival showcasing artist at the age of 17.

He was also the youngest ever winner of the Kerrville Folk Festival’s New Folk Award in 2005, of which previous winners include Gillian Welch, Devon Sproule and Anais Mitchell (who describes Jack Harris as “a priest of song who holds himself to an ancient, rigorous code of beauty most of us have forgotten exists).

A Telegraph review describes Harris as “a natural and captivating song writing talent, 5/5”.

Tickets for Lady Maisery with special guest Jack Harris are £13 (£12) £3 - Mates Rates (a scheme for 11-18-year-olds, please see Theatr Mwldan’s website for details) can be booked online or via mobile by visiting www.mwldan.co.uk, or directly with Mwldan’s box office 01239 621200.
