A COLLABORATION between American filmmaker Sofia Coppola and Italian haute couture king Valentino Garavani comes in the form of a revival of Giuseppe Verdi’s classic opera, La Traviata showing at Theatr Mwldan on Wednesday, September 6 at 6.45pm.
Coppola brings new life into Verdi’s 1853 opera that tells the story of tempestuous love and heartbreak. Violetta Valéry is a well-known courtesan in Paris whose life appears to be glamorous.
However, she’s suffering from a serious illness and living on the money given to her by her male patrons. She ends up meeting and falling in love with Alfredo Germont, a young man from a good family; but tragic circumstances mean they’re torn apart.
Following a 15 performance sell-out run in Rome, this elegant spectacle is being brought directly to the big screen, captured in glorious 4K from the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
Tickets for Sofia Copplola’s La Traviata are £16 (£15) and are available to book from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200, online/via smart phone at www.mwldan.co.uk or by downloading the new MWLDAN app.
