THEATR Mwldan Film Society will screen Aquarius (18) on Sunday, October 1 at 5.40pm.

The Brazilian director of 2012’s superb Neighbouring Sounds, Kleber Mendonça Filho, returns with this multi award-winning film.

Sixty-five-year-old widow Clara is the last remaining occupant of her ageing apartment building, the Aquarius in seaside Recife. Her neighbours have accepted offers from an ambitious development firm, but Clara refuses to move despite the increasingly aggressive actions of the company.

A parable of tradition versus modernity, of human happiness versus the relentless march to progress, with a terrific central performance from Sonia Braga as the determined Clara.
