JAZZ lovers at Rhosygilwen are in for a treat with a world-class musical evening of music and song from Dave O’Higgins and Iain MacKenzie on Saturday, November 25 at 8pm.

Dave O’Higgins is a saxophonist, composer, arranger, educator and latterly recording engineer and producer.

He has been a popular figure on the UK and international jazz scene for 30 years now, with 19 albums as leader under his belt. His recent sell-out tour of the UK has received rave reviews.

Dave’s tenor and soprano sax sounds are highly personal and recognisable, with a clear sense of melodic development and adventure.

A popular performer with the public, with an excellent sense of pacing and presentation, he has a wide palette from Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Joe Henderson through to Stanley Turrentine and Michael Brecker.

He has relentlessly pursued artistic and sonic exploration, and enjoys the learning process which is a constant advancing flow.

The Dave O’Higgins Quartet has been together for five years now with Sebastiaan de Krom (drums), Geoff Gascoyne (bass) and Graham Harvey (piano) – a band that is unashamed to swing and draw on blues and functional harmonies and the great tome of jazz vocabulary, eschewing fads and fusions.

He is joined for the evening by Iain MacKenzie who comes from a pedigree of British jazz musicians to have passed through the Guildhall School of Music.

Iain is one of the most in-demand jazz, lounge and big band singers in the UK. Performing with world class orchestras and big bands, including those of the BBC and RTE, Iain is currently the principle male vocalist for the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, and leader of the Ronnie Scott’s Singers – The iTones.

Iain’s voice can be heard featuring on a vast amount of publicity and adverts on TV, radio and online. He has also worked widely with vocal harmony groups including Voxtet, The Magnets, The New London Jazz Voices and with jazz legends Kenny Wheeler and Abdullah Ibrahim.

Other credits include Sandie Shaw, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Susan Boyle, Joss Stone and Mica Paris.
