Furrow Collective at Martletwy

With two sell-out concerts already under its belt this spring, this is shaping up to be the most successful year ever for the unique little music venue that is Burnett's Hill, Martletwy.

And tickets are likely to be in great demand again next week when an all-star folk quartet takes the stage at the restored country chapel, The Furrow Collective is an award-winning and critically acclaimed English/Scottish band consisting of four distinctive and talented performers: Lucy Farrell (viola, voice & saw), Rachel Newton (harp, fiddle, voice), Emily Portman (banjo, concertina, voice) and Alasdair Roberts (guitars, voice).

The group was formed in 2013, drawn together by a shared love of traditional song and balladry of England, Scotland and beyond.

In recognition of its innovative approach,The Furrow Collective was awarded the accolade of 'Best Band' at the 2017 BBC Radio Two Folk Awards, hot on the heels of the release in late 2016 of the quartet's second album,Wild Hog (Hudson Records).

Nominated as Radio Two 'Folk Singer of the Year' in 2016, Emily Portman is no stranger to Martletwy. Not only has she performed at Burnett's Hill twice before in various line-ups, she also has happy memories of regular childhood holidays spent at Pencoed Farm just down the road.

Rachel Newton, the 2017 BBC Radio Two 'Folk Musician of the Year', is a member of The Shee as well as fronting her own band, while Lucy Farrell has recently been touring as part of Eliza Carthy's all-conquering Wayward Band. Alasdair Roberts, meanwhile, will be joining up with the Furrows hot-foot from a solo tour of Spain.

The concert at Martletwy is on Wednesday March 21 and tickets are £10.00 each, available from Main Street Music in Pembroke or by calling 01646 651725.
