THE National Theatre’s gripping production of Macbeth will be broadcast at Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan on Monday, May 14 (7pm)

The ruined aftermath of a bloody civil war. A brave general (Macbeth) receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland.

Ruthlessly fighting to survive, the Macbeths are propelled towards the crown by forces of elemental darkness.

Terrifying and intense, this brand new production of Shakespeare’s most intense and terrifying tragedy, is directed by the National Theatre’s artistic director Rufus Norris, 25 years after his last Shakespeare production.

Double Olivier award winning actor Rory Kinnear (Othello, Skyfall) and Olivier and BAFTA nominee Anne-Marie Duff (Sufragette, Shameless) play Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.

The cast also includes Nadia Albina, Michael Balogun, Stephen Boxer, Trevor Fox, Andrew Frame, Kevin Harvey, Hannah Hutch, Nicholas Karimi, Joshua Lacey, Penny Layden, Anna-Maria Nabirye, Amaka Okafor, Patrick O’Kane, Hauk Pattison, Alana Ramsey, Beatrice Scirocchi, Rakhee Sharma and Parth Thakerar.

Since launching in 2009, National Theatre Live broadcasts have been seen by an audience of more than seven million people at 2,500 venues in 65 countries.

The first season began in June 2009 with the acclaimed production of Phédre starring Oscar winner Helen Mirren.

Recent broadcasts include Follies with Imelda Staunton, Yerma with Billie Piper, Angels in America with Andrew Garfield and Russell Tovey, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? with Imelda Staunton and Conleth Hill, Rosentcrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead with Daniel Radcliffe and Hedda Gabler with Ruth Wilson.
