AN innovative poetry show that is touring around Britain’s coast to celebrate marine life is coming to Cardigan.

Acclaimed poet Susan Richardson is taking her Words the Turtle Taught Me event to venues around the coast of the UK throughout 2018 and she’ll be performing her latest show in the tour at The Cellar Bards event on Friday, June 29, at the Cellar Bar, Quay Street, Cardigan.

Doors and the bar open at 7.45pm. Entry is £3 and open mic spots are available.

Susan Richardson is a Pembrokeshire-based poet and performer. She is currently poet-in-residence with the global animal welfare initiative, World Animal Day, and the British Animal Studies Network, facilitated by the University of Strathclyde.

Susan has performed on BBC2, Radio 4 and at festivals both nationally and internationally. She co-edits Zoomorphic digital literary magazine.

Susan’s fourth collection of poetry, Words the Turtle Taught Me (Cinnamon Press) was described by writer Philip Hoare as ‘vital, glorious, salutary’.

The work grew out of her recent poetry residency with the Marine Conservation Society. Fostering engagement with endangered ocean creatures, it blends science with shamanism, contemporary ecological peril with ancient myth.

Open mic spots are always available at The Cellar Bards, Cardigan’s only regular spoken word event.

The Bards welcome writers of poetry, short stories, micro-fiction and novels (max five minutes each). People who want to read can put their names down at the door on the night.

Or go along to see Susan Richardson’s amazing poetry show, plus a variety of spoken word performances from the talented regulars. The event is hosted by poet Dave Urwin.
