Nationwide Mercury Music Prize nominees, the sensational Rachel Unthank and The Winterset, will be performing at Theatr Mwldan on Tuesday.

This bewitching Geordie all-girl band was nominated for the prestigious prize alongside Radiohead, Robert Plant, Elbow, Adele and Estelle. Equally at home at music festivals like Glastonbury or the Big Chill, Rachel Unthank and The Winterset cross many boundaries. Singing in lilting Geordie accents, the band is both striking and brave, transcendent and grounded.

Based around old, new and imaginatively borrowed stories, the band’s music brims with the creative force of four young musicians at their peak.

Their collective background in traditional music is the anchor that affords the band their sense of adventure and allows them to subvert folk music with love and authority. The two sisters, Becky and Rachel, were born and bred in the North-East and brought up with the Tyneside tradition of sea songs, border songs and clog dancing.

Their live performances are already legendary so don’t miss this chance to check them out. Tickets are £13 (£12 concessions). To book, call 01239 621200.
