TWO talented young instrumentalists from Pembrokeshire, who are now studying at the Royal College of Music in London, are headlining in a concert of popular classics in the county on Friday (August 29).

Flautist Catherine Hare from Saundersfoot and harpist Isabel Harries from Milford Haven are staging the evening of music and song at the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot in aid of the HOPE MS Therapy Centre, Neyland.

They will be joined by their good friends and fellow RCM students Emma Purslow on viola and violin and soprano Sarah Lenney, with a guest appearance by tenor Paul Varallo.

All the girls met at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, where 20-year-old Catherine was head girl.

Catherine has playing in many prestigious concert halls throughout Europe and under the baton of some of the greatest conductors in the world with national youth orchestras and ensembles.

She will soon be collaborating with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in a concert conducted by Grant Llewellyn, originally from Saundersfoot, as well as playing as part of the band on the Wicked musical UK tour.

Isabel, aged 21, has played the harp in concert venues across the UK and in 2011, won the under 26 instrumental solo competition at Wales YFC Eisteddfod. She was invited back in 2012 to be the official harpist of the event.

Catherine said that she and Isabel were ‘delighted’ to be giving their first public performance together in Pembrokeshire, where their musical lives began.

She added: “Our accompanist, Dr Stuart Evans, was my very first flute teacher, and has supported me throughout my career, so I am pleased that he is able to join us.”

The concert takes place at 7.30pm on Friday (doors open 6.30pm). Tickets are £10 (18 and under, £5; eight and under, £2.50) and are available on the door on the night. To book, call the Regency Hall on 01834 811700.
