‘THE bassiest club night in Pembrokeshire’ is set to get clubbers in a spin this Friday (November 6).

New dance night Substantial Sound promises “a full range of bass culture beats with tunes to make your soul sparkle and plenty of bass to make you grin”.

With a fantastic line-up of experienced local DJs playing a range of genres, and a powerful 5kw JBL professional sound system, there will be something for everyone, with music that is ‘easy on the ears and good for the soul’.

Organisers and tried-and-tested turntablists Derren Heath and Charlie Willatts said the inspiration for the night was to bring fans of bass culture music together.

“We believe that a tune can be a rolling track whether it is 20 years old or 20 days old,” said Charlie, who said sound quality was high on the pair’s agenda.

On the line-up is reggae and dub maestro Aacralystic Sound, who earnt his performing stripes playing bass with well-known local band Dirty Dog.

Joining him will be passionate Pembrokeshire bass fan Buzzby, who plays everything from hip hop to house to jungle.

Co-organiser Associate – aka Derren Heath - from Haverfordwest, will be playing a mixture of broken beats.

A seasoned live performer, for club nights Derren swaps his thoughtful songwriting style for breakbeats and drum and bass that show a real sense of humour.

Bringing the jungle will be Charlie himself, otherwise known as Charly Says.
Hailing from Dinas, he's been DJ-ing for a decade, and more recently started producing too.

Fusing hip hop and funk with a phat dollop of filthy bass, St Davids stalwart Late Knight knows how to select a tune to warm up the floor, and keep it hot.

Growing up on a varied and heady musical cocktail of heavy metal, drum and bass and funk, his influences have been plain to see over the last 15 years, in his turntable-tastic sets up and down the country.

Having supported many big names in the dance music scene, such as Freestylers, Pendulum and Jaguar Skills, Late Knight's ability to adapt to different crowds and different genres really sets him apart from the crowd.

Bringing things to a close will be MBS, who has been DJing jungle and techno since 1992 and has producing since 2008, with releases on a Greek label called Audio Theory and their sister label Evil Audio.

Originally from Milford Haven, he has released records on the UK labels Boomsha Recordings and KingTing Records.

Substantial Sound starts at 10pm, and runs until 3am, and will be held at El Rio, in Quay Street.
