RENÉE Fleming has been widely praised for what will be the final performances of one of her signature roles as the Marschallin in the Met Opera Live’s new production of Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier.

In this encore screening of Strauss’ tragicomic romance at Cardigan’s Theatr Mwldan, a dream cast of Fleming (as the Marschallin) and Elina Garanca (as Octavian) star in Strauss’s grandest opera.

In this new production, Robert Carsen places the action at the end of the Habsburg Empire, underscoring the opera’s subtext of class and conflict against a rich backdrop of gilt and red damask, in a staging that also stars Günther Groissböck (as Baron Ochs). Sebastian Weigle conducts the sparklingly perfect score.

The Wall Street Journal review says: “As beautiful as ever, and a subtle, sensitive actress, Fleming gave a performance of deep feeling… Garanca’s mezzo overflowed with the warmth and richness of youth… magical moments.”

The screening takes place on Tuesday, May 16 at 6pm and tickets for MET Opera screenings are £16 (£15) and are available now from Mwldan's Box Office on 01239 621200, online or via Smartphones at www.mwldan.co.uk
