A UNIQUE circus and cabaret show based on the life and works of Alfred Hitchcock, visits The Torch Theatre next Thursday, April 9.

Hitch has been created and is performed by Mary Bijou Cabaret and Social Club.

Taking inspiration from his movies, Hitch will take audiences on a journey into the extraordinary mind of Alfred Hitchcock.

As audiences enter a darkly funny and twisted world of suspense and intrigue, the performers draw everyone into the shadows as they balance on a knife-edge. A thrilling adventure into the murky places of Cabaret’s psyche, Hitch collects the bizarre and fantastical to amuse, terrorise and tantalise.

Walking the line between hilarity and horror, this cabaret includes a singing Mrs Danvers, extolling her beloved Rebecca; a Vertigo victim walking a wire in high heels; Tippi Hedren on a Chinese pole beset by Birds and Marlene Dietrich, prowling the theatre, looking for an accomplice or victim - she’s not picky.

George Fuller, co-founder of Mary Bijou Cabaret and clown in Hitch, said: “Hitch is our tribute to Alfred Hitchcock. He made 54 films and he continues to influencing filmmaking and so much more. He is still being referenced on telly, comedy shows and in art work. More personally, his imagination appears in our nightmares and our moments of paranoia. Who doesn’t know someone who gets a little frightened getting into the shower when they are alone in the house? This was our goal in creating Hitch, to face our fears, put there by the master.”

Mary Bijou Cabaret and Social Club aim to take cabaret to new frontiers. Made up of veterans of NoFit State Circus and the underground live art scene of London, the companies strive to bring the art of cabaret into the 21st century of contemporary circus/ theatre. Hitch also features a thrilling soundscape with music by Tom Elstob (The Idol Rich), Bethan Cecil and Branwen Munn.

Mary Bijou Cabaret and Social Club heartily encourage dressing up for the performance.

George added: “Come as your favourite Hitchcock character... victim, villain or hapless innocent. Or maybe you fancy yourself as the ‘master of suspense’ himself...”

The performance begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are available on The Torch website and from the box office.
