THERE is another chance to see the Torch Theatre Company's hit one-man show about the rugby legend and Welsh cultural icon Ray Gravell next week.

Pembrokeshire audiences can catch the show at the Torch in Milford Haven on July 23 and 24 before it heads off to Cardiff and then the Edinburgh Fringe festival.

Raymond ‘Ray’ William Robert Gravell was a Welsh rugby union centre who played club rugby for Llanelli RFC.

At international level, Gravell earned 23 caps for Wales and was selected for the 1980 British Lions tour to South Africa.

He later became a respected broadcaster and occasional actor, but died aged 56 in October 2007 after succumbing to complications resulting from diabetes.

The play enjoyed a hugely successful Welsh tour earlier this year and was praised by audiences and critics alike.

Written by Owen Thomas, with the blessing of Mari, Ray’s widow, and contributions from his Welsh and British Lions team mates, it was directed by the Torch Theatre’s artistic director Peter Doran and performed by Gareth Bale who TV credits include The Indian Doctor, High Hopes, Pobol y Cwm and more.

Bale said: “The response to the show in Wales earlier this year was just terrific. It goes to show how much love there still is for Grav today. There have been many positive comments regarding the poetry of the script, the humour and the emotion.”

Tickets for the Milford shows are £10 and available from the Torch box office.

The play can then be seen at Chapter in Cardiff from July 27-30 at the the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh from August 6 to 30.
