THE Royal Shakespeare Company present Iqbal Khan’s production of Shakespeare’s great romantic tragedy Antony & Cleopatra, broadcast live from Stratford-upon-Avon to Theatr Mwldan in Cardigan on Wednesday May 24 at 7pm.

Continuing their Rome season, the story picks up where Julius Caesar ends, with Mark Antony reaching the height of power, then neglecting his empire for a life of decadent seduction with his mistress, the Queen of Egypt.

Torn between love and duty, Antony’s military brilliance deserts him, and his passion leads the lovers to their tragic end.

Josette Simon is Cleopatra, in a role she is being described as ‘born to play’, Antony Byrne gives a bravado-laced performance and Iqbal Khan returns to the RSC as director, following his critically acclaimed productions of Othello (2015) and Much Ado About Nothing (2012). Score is by the multi-award winning Laura Mvula.

‘This Antony & Cleopatra is the best I’ve ever seen’ says the review in the Evening Standard, while the Daily Mail says the performance is ‘richly textured, with big saucy acting’.

Tickets are £12.50 (£11.50) and are available to book from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200, online or via smart phone at www.mwldan.co.uk
