FOR their winter show to be put on during half-term week, the Cilgerran Players are mounting an all-new stage adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.

The cast is made up mainly of children, with adults playing only the nastiest or craziest of Lewis Carroll’s characters.

And crazies there are a-plenty in this original Victorian theatre of the absurd: the monstrous Queen of Hearts with her fondness for capital punishment, the fat fighting duo of Tweedledum and Tweedledee, the exceedingly rude and sadistic Duchess, pompous Humpty-Dumpty and of course the hilarious eccentrics at the Mad Hatter’s tea-party.

It is the combination of absurd humour with seemingly impeccable logic which makes Carroll’s work so powerful and so appealing to all ages.

With the addition of song, dance, stunning costumes and an interval Mad Hatter’s high tea for the audience, this is a show not to be missed.

Performances are on Thursday 22, Friday 23 and Saturday, February 24 at 7.30 pm at Cilgerran Village Hall. Tickets are £8 and £5 (under 13) to include Mad Hatter’s High Tea. and available from Pendre Garage and Cilgerran Village Stores. Telephone reservations 01239 615909.
