THE award-winning Attic Players from Newcastle Emlyn present the premier of their devised production ‘Power and Petticoats’.

Director Melanie Davies has also written the piece, which was created from workshop-style rehearsals with the cast and crew.

"The piece grew out of my long held interest in women's struggle for the vote and how lucky I am to have the opportunity to fulfil my ambition with Attic Players," said Melanie.

“Power and Petticoats is full of energy and fizz. It is a very entertaining show that shines a light on a time when so many people were questioning why half the population of Britain didn't have a vote.

“You will hear many voices from that time from kitchen maids to politicians, from the rich to the poor, from those with and those without power. We can't wait to get on that stage.”

The cast feature many faces familiar to Attic audiences, as well as new members taking to the stage for the first time. Newcomer to The Attic Players, but already a seasoned performer, Semele Xerri is excited to be taking part in such an exciting, dynamic piece of theatre.

“Rehearsals are stretching and challenging us beyond usual performance boundaries, mentally and physically, and generating fantastic trust and support among the cast and crew. When you see the show you'll understand what I mean,” she said.

2018 marks the centenary year of some women being given the vote, and as such ‘Power and Petticoats’ is a topical, historical and also amusing look at the journey faced by those fighting so passionately for the right to express themselves equally - a story that is engaging and witty, and bound to be another stand-out production from The Attic Players.

‘Power and Petticoats’ runs from Wednesday, August 29 to Saturday, September 1 for four performances.

Doors open at 7pm, performance begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7, and available from Fair and Fabulous in Newcastle Emlyn, or online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/attic
