Tourist trap

THE recent letter stating a Goodwick conservation group’s concerns over the port development were ‘emotional claptrap’ will help the group. An ancient boat hook shaped fish trap does exist at low tide, medieval or not, and it won’t get in the way of employment; if it comes it might even draw tourists.
Little regard has been shown for the historical value in the area, with the demolishing some years ago of the watch house and magazine on the cliff tops above the Fishguard harbour.
The existing jetty was rebuilt at the birth of the harbour, by an act of parliament.
Could this monument not be preserved in any port development instead of meaningless modern sculpture? A lot of people are concerned at the loss of future free access to the eastern mole [breakwater].
