Bus and train idea

FISHGUARD and Goodwick would be best served by locating a bus station at the Goodwick train station site.

This area has open road to a by-pass without large vehicles having to negotiate narrow streets with residents.

There is already a shuttle service between the twin towns, and these could stop at bus stands with seats and timetables in the town’s three car parks for use by passengers. The bus/train link needs to be seven days a week for weekenders to be at their place of work on Monday morning.

The station building could house an office, waiting room, shop unit, café and lavatories, and outside a covered walkway.

We are informed that in High Street, Fishguard, the Ship and Anchor and old library are to be demolished for a road sytem in the town centre which forms part of the school site, currently on the market for a suitable buyer.

This site could be marketed as a language school and activity centre with the two buildings standing, as this kind of thriving business is increasingly popular across the UK.

Needed on site are teachers, sports and craft providers, hospitality and maintenance staff, and the management of same with pastoral care of students shared with accompanying activity leaders from the students’ resident country.

Local businesses benefit from student patronage, and local transport providers are employed for students’ excursions and visits to local places of interest.

Independent sports providers also benefit who teach surfing, boating and adventure sports. In the meantime these buildings could be utilised for tourist and community purpose, and there is a need for a safe place for teenagers to congregate also in Fishguard town centre.

This in my considered response to reading in local journals the news of what is planned for Fishguard and Goodwick by our councillors, and hopefully local people with the emotional capacity to care for their heritage and future prospects of the area, will give their comments in time to the planning department of PCC.
