Not the answer

I READ with interest your frustrated reader’s suggestion to close all community councils and hold regular meetings with their constituents.

This is not the answer to their current problems of failing sewers and drains, as I can speak from my past experience as a community councillor from 1990 to 2008.

The way forward is to lobby the Welsh Government i.e. Paul Davies AM as Welsh Water plc has accepted responsibility for the domestic and commercial drainage systems both private and public.

The county council is only responsible for dealing with the planning application and this can be revoked by the Welsh Assembly minister or Welsh Water management if the present system is failing or unable to cope with future increases in capacity.

I would suggest that they form a residents’ association as soon as possible and get legal advice from a commercial solicitor and constantly petition PCC and WAG AMs.

The above agencies need to be reminded that the residents takes and the sewerage maintenance charges are paying for a safe and environmental healthy drainage system throughout Wales.
