I FEEL I must correct Sir Eric Howells when he stated in last week’s Western Telegraph that it is 35 years since the last visit of H.M.

the Queen to Pembrokeshire.

Her Majesty, accompanied by H.R.H.The Duke of Edinburgh, visited Pembrokeshire on 22nd November 2001, when she opened the new county hall.

As the then chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, I was privileged to co host a lunch for Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh together with invited guests.

This was followed by an afternoon garden party at Pembroke castle. They also visited other places including St Davids cathedral.

As anyone who has met them will know that both the Queen and the Duke are delightful people to talk to and as Sir Eric stated are still very popular and I am sure that a warm welcome awaits them any time they visit Pembrokeshire.
