I READ with interest the letter from Helen Osman in your issue of September 3.

I too am an exile in London and am deeply saddened by what I see in Bridge Street when I come back home, about every three months or so, to visit my parents in Haverfordwest. So many shops closed, so many charity shops opened.

That said, as Ms Osman suggests, now is the time to start campaigning and do something about it, let’s start by supporting the local traders that are still trying to do their best in Haverfordwest.

Despite places closing around them Haverfordwest still has some real gems that my wife and I head for every time we come. I buy all my stationery from SET who I find really helpful and well-priced and we always lunch upstairs in Samuels sandwich shop. My wife always has to make a visit to the Sheep Shop, she calls it her ‘fix’ for their great range of gifts and friendly staff. These businesses are trying to, and deserve to, succeed but they need to be supported.

There are other places as well, but my point is that if Pembrokeshire people supported struggling Pembrokeshire businesses then Haverfordwest and the other town centres in the county might thrive again. Come on Pembrokeshire, support your local businesses.
