MY WIFE and I are stunned that one planning inspector in Cardiff (Kay Sheffield) has the power to over-turn a decision that has been made and endorsed by the community council, the Local Planning Authority, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and the overwhelming majority of the residents of the affected area (Sardis, Hill Mountain and Ashdale Lane).

I am quite sure that most, if not all, of those mentioned above would agree with the need for renewable, green energy. It must have been clear from her site inspection that many residents in Sardis, Hill Mountain and Ashdale lane have invested in solar panels since their properties face south.

Recently however, the Telegraph stated ‘Most solar panels are facing the wrong direction, say scientists.’ ‘In the northern hemisphere most solar panels face south.

West-facing panels, however, are able to generate a more even flow of electricity than spikes of energy at lunchtime.’ This would mean that the large new barn the applicant, Mrs Julie Ayres, has constructed would be ideal for solar panels as it is aligned in a West and East direction.

Such a solution would satisfy her power needs, supply a surplus for the National Grid and would not blight the lives of residents nearby nor devalue their properties by tens of thousands of pounds.

We have begged Kay Sheffield, the Planning Inspector, to reconsider her decision and show some compassion to the residents who are most adversely affected and imagine her own reaction should this situation ever apply to her and her family.

We are all hoping that you will have some way of overtuning this ludicrous and damaging decision which would blight our beautiful part of the Welsh countryside.

Like Cornwall and Devon, Pembrokeshire is on the jewels in the crown of British scenic beauty and a major tourist destination.

Since starting this letter I have had a notification from the Planning Inspectorate which states ‘A decision cannot be challenged merely because someone disagrees with the Inspector’s Judgement’.

So Mrs Ayres can appeal the decision by all the bodies quoted about but they do not have that right.

I am sure that Mr Lincoln is turning in his grave as it appears that what we have is a ‘Government of the people, by a person, for a person’.

What has happened to common sense and democracy?
