PLEASE can everyone tell their Assembly members not to spend £1billion on a little bit of motorway relief road.

This might seem a dull subject but it translates into no money for any major improvements anywhere in Wales for over ten years. This is insane.

The M4 near Newport can be improved at a fraction of the cost and without tarmacing over the Gwent Levels.

Especially worrying is the fact that Labour in Wales want to use up all our new found borrowing capacity on this one improvement. There is no certain evidence that the investment will pay and who knows what other vital expenditure will be needed in the coming years in these uncertain times.

I was at Plaid Cymru conference where Llyr Gruffydd, the environment chair was desperate to get action to stop the waste of all of Wales borrowed money.

It has just now come to light that over £6 million has been spent already, just researching the relief road. The cross party Assembly scrutiny committee which is chaired by Plaid have not been allowed to see the research and the minister has rejected their invitation to come and discuss it with them. This is a flagrant abuse of democracy.

Do ask your Assembly members to stop the expenditure until the research has been looked at and the options properly discussed.
